Reds Win – Revs Lose http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2013/08/reds-win-revs-lose/ Post game video thoughts after Toronto FC defeat the New England Revolution away in Foxboro on Sunday past. In this post I take a look at the game, the most important metric to emerge in the past three games, the composure at the back plus Laba and his HUGE upside.I also take a look ahead at the useless friendly again Roma on Wednesday, the potential controversy ahead if TFC signs Max Urrutti from Argentina and I ask why Toronto FC feels it should not make a serious run to sign a world class American footballer as some sort of favour to American Soccer.
Four Words http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2013/08/four-words/ Thoughts on Payne, Friendlies, Winning Streaks from 1,000 days ago and of course the trending Twitter hashtag #getusedtoit
Best TFC piece I've read in a while. Pretty perfectly sums up MLSE's role in TFC's downfall: http://www.wakingthered.com/2013/9/...earn-stuff-by-richard-peddie-tom-anselmi-mlse
From yesterday, but one of the best pieces of TFC analysis anywhere this year IMHO. Everyone should check it out: http://www.wakingthered.com/2013/9/...oe-bendik-stefan-frei-greg-sutton-milos-kocic Dave wrote and posted this before the Konopka trade too IIRC. Gives a different context to that decision if you consider his side point about the reality of Bendik in comparison to 2010 Frei.
The “Truman/TFC” Show – Absurdity Abounds http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2013/09/truman-tfc-show/ How the absurdity around TFC, up to the farce Saturday past is starting to feel like a crazy movie.
First Anger Then Hope http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2013/12/angerthenhope/ Dwayne De Rosario returns to Toronto FC. How his arrival is a symbol of renewed hope for 2014 and beyond.
I’m Sorry DeRo http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/01/im-sorry-dero/ I make a heartfelt apology to Dwayne De Rosario and welcome him back home to Toronto FC.
Now Its All About Bezbatchenko http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/01/bezbatchenko/ The last few days have been about Tim Leiweke. The next few weeks will all be about Tim Bezbatchenko. How the next six weeks might define the kind of General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko turns out to be for Toronto FC

A Great Start To Season Eight http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/03/a-great-start-to-season-eight/ Toronto FC went west to kick off their 2014 campaign this past Saturday in fine style with an emphatic 2-1 away victory over the Seattle Sounders. In this post I talk about how everything and everybody came together, in particular the new Big Three plus just about everybody & everything else. I talk about how this essentially new team is rekindling much of the supporter passion that has long been dormant in Toronto and I take a moment to call out Clint Dempsey who deservedly should be getting suspended for his actions in the game.
One Chance To Stop The Argos http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/03/one-chance-to-stop-the-argos/ BMO Field will be expanded. However we still have one chance to keep the Argonauts out.
I love both the Argos and TFC - what I don't love is standing outside in crappy weather. I just don't get the animosity towards the hybrid field when it is the standard for fields in Europe, if anything it is the superior option.
I think we are in the fear of the unknown stage. What hybrid has not done yet (to my knowledge) is prove itself in a two tenant/long term sharing situation. Wembley is fine but not used every week for either/any sport. I think, at the end of the day, someone is gonna get to say "I told you so"...either the boss at MLSE or the fans/doubters/naysayers .
Yeah, true - but if you're going to do something out of fear of somebody saying 'I told you so' that's no way to run a business.
Not what I was suggesting at all....just meant that when you venture into the unknown and there are two opposing opinions one of them is gonna end up being right. Time will tell which it is.
Actually. I'd wager that neither point of view wins entirely. It'll probably work for the most part, but there'll be some problems (there always are in just about any enevour) and the cynics will milk those to call it a failure.
I don't know if this is the right forum for this link. Julio Cesar: 'MLS atmosphere rivals Premier League' http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/toronto/news/cesar-mls-organisation-is-wonderful_145356.html
TFC Home Opener 2014 http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/03/tfc-home-opener-2014/ Post game video thoughts after TFC’s splendid home opening win versus DC United. In this edition I focus on the as advertised DP’s, the steady progression of Doneil Henry, the renewed sense of occasion in the stands at BMO Field and I take a look ahead as some potential reality checks ahead in the form of some really tough road games.
Reds Lose at RSL - Back Down To Earth http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/03/downtoearth/ Toronto FC crashes back to earth after a rough 3-0 defeat in Salt Lake City Saturday night. In this post game video blog I take a brief look back at the match and some of the apparent weaknesses the loss exposed (Bloom and Orr come immediately to mind). I also try to explain why we should not jump off tall buildings after just one game nor should we be exalting after the first two results either in retrospect. Finally I try and explain how the loss shows that the DP signings and new players coming in can only partially make up for seven previous seasons of gross ineptitude - and that there is still a ways for TFC to go.
TFC Put The Boots To The Crew http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/04/tfc-put-the-boots-to-the-crew/ In this post game video blog I take a look back at TFC's surprising short-handed victory over Columbus that saw just about every Toronto player exceed expectations in a 2-0 result. I also take a look at some suprisingly creative tactical innovations/selections from Mr. '4-4-2' Nelsen that worked quite well and I try and put this unprecedented nine points - two shutouts - two road wins season start into some sort of historical context.
Shorthanded Reds Lose A Squeaker to Rapids http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/04/shorthanded/ In spite of an eye opener type of performance for youngster Kyle Bekker a shorthanded Toronto FC lost at home to Colorado 1-0 this past Saturday. In this video blog I lament in advance the impact on TFC of the World Cup, I take a more detailed look at the solid performance of the aforementioned Kyle Bekker & I tee up the tough road game ahead in Dallas. Finally I try and take a look at the first five games played for TFC and try and place a 3-0-2 start in some sort of context.
Reds Storm Back To Win! http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/07/reds-storm-back/ Post game thoughts on a memorable night at BMO Field as the Reds stormed back from an early two nil deficit to win 4-2. In this post I take a look back at the win and the defensive lapses that led to the need for the comeback in the first place. I also take a look at both the prowess of Defoe and the need for more secondary scorers to start stepping up. Finally I include some video from the stands and outside the stadium as supporters celebrate the win in true TFC style.
We All Cried 'Unkel' http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/07/we-all-cried-unkel/ Sadly we witnessed Saturday where another poor (and highly inexperienced!) MLS official directly impacts the outcome of a Toronto FC match - this time not for the better. In this video blog I take a look at the critical error that MLS ref Ted Unkel made early on that arguably cost TFC three precious points and many of the others he made in a shockingly poor display of officiating. I also take a look at how well the Reds did compete against one of the very best opponents they will see this season in Kansas City and how Nelsen still needs to find more ways going forward to take advantage of what he now has to work with.
