Big East, MWC, C-USA considering super conference?
    http://www.boston.com/sports/colleges/extras/colleges_blog/2011/10/big_east_mwc_c-.html

While the Big East considers its next move on expansion, it is now being asked to consider a plan that would create a nation-wide football conference incorporating between 28 and 32 teams in four divisions from Conference USA, the Mountain West Conference as well as the Big East.
According to sources from those conferences, the plan was devised as a way that the Big East could ensure its place as one of the six conferences receiving automatic BCS bids.

The document, which was obtained by The Globe, reveals an alternative plan which would help the Big East maintain its AQ status -- automatic qualification -- but also provide access to the Mountain West and Conference USA, who hope to gain such status.

Under the plan, Super Conference would consist of four divisions: West, Mountain, Central and the Big East. In the 32-team format,

the West Division would consist of Boise State, Hawaii, UNLV, Nevada, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State and San Jose State.

The Mountain Division would consist of Air Force, Wyoming, Colorado State, New Mexico, UTEP, SMU, Tulsa and Houston.

The Central Division would consist of Marshall, Memphis, Southern Mississippi, Tulane, UAB, Rice, Temple and Louisiana Tech.

the Big East Division would consist of Louisville, UConn, Rutgers, Cincinnati, South Florida, Central Florida, East Carolina and Navy.

West Virginia is not included in this plan, with the assumption being the Mountaineers would be headed to the Big 12 to replace Missouri which will presumably wind up in the SEC along with Texas A&M.

ESPN: Source: Big East calls off today's football meeting

The Big East has called off a meeting at which the possibility of a nationwide football superconference was to be discussed, a source told ESPN.com's Andy Katz.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the meeting, between officials from the Big East, the Mountain West and Conference USA, was to take place Wednesday. The MWC and C-USA already have agreed to a two-conference football association with a scheduling agreement and championship game, starting in 2012 or 2013.

But the source, who has direct knowledge of the meeting, told Katz the Big East called the Mountain West on Tuesday and canceled the meeting.
The Big East, beset by the defections of Pittsburgh and Syracuse to the ACC, TCU's decision to join the Big 12 and the possible departure of West Virginia to the Big 12 -- which is now on hold, sources tell ESPN's Joe Schad -- has its eye on teams in the Mountain West and Conference USA for expansion, according to sources.

Looks like WVU is going to the Big 12. Big East might as well do something like this:

    Big East West
    Boise State
    BYU
    Air Force
    SMU
    Houston
    Memphis
    Louisville

    Big Easter
    Temple
    UConn
    Rutgers
    Cincinnati
    South Florida
    Central Florida
    Navy

Not a powerhouse, but enough to keep their BCS status I think. You could have a conference championship game. Could help keep the basketball side strong as well. Don't know if Louisville is leaving or not.

I don't think they keep their BCS status imo.

I was thinking that the BCS conferences was a set number at six, and the Big East could keep their AQ status by taking the schools mentioned.

Am I the only one who thinks that Backroom Collusion Series will simply tweak their "qualifying formula" to allow the Big East to stay if they want them to stay or tweak to make them go if they want them to go?
