Once upon a time Many years and years ago There lived a tiny little boy Whose name you may now know He lived in a tiny house In a tiny little town The town, it was in Georgia All the way down south The boy had two older brothers Named Andy and named Phil All three of them played football Until it made one ill Then their mom made all three boys Quit that awful sport But the youngest one took up a football Of quite a different sort And he grew up and he practiced And soccer was his game And pretty soon he was pretty good And all the scouts thought the same He went off to South Carolina Where he did rather well He met his buddy Josh Wolff And everything was swell Josh was good at soccer But not as good as him For his future was so bright It made Josh’s seem quite dim He graduated and then the draft Came along in ‘98 And everyone agreed on one thing That he was really great He was drafted by the Galaxy And soon he quickly rose He became a star and who he is Now everybody knows LA traded him to the MetroStars A move they now regret For as good as he was that year He’d play even better yet In 2000 he scored many goals He’d score and score again He got called up to the national team So he could play for them 2001, people thought That he’d go just as far And this young kid from Georgia Was suddenly a star At first he kept on scoring We thought “MVP” But no matter how great he seemed It’s always best to wait and see They all remembered 2000 This year was deja vu But life isn’t always perfect Sometimes bad things happen, too Not long after something happened Almost too sad to tell The hero of US soccer Went and tore his ACL After the start to the year Hopes for him had been so high But now his season was all over In the blink of an eye He was determined to come back soon But his knee was slow to heal It was many months before he could Get back onto the field In April he was back with Metro After his run was put on pause 2002 was going to be A big year for him because... There’s a huge event in soccer That comes every four years The event is the World Cup And the year for it was here If he went to South Korea And played like he had before He’d get a big contract To play in Europe for sure They went to South Korea With expectations low For they came in last place in ‘98 The last World Cup, you know Their first game was against Portugal When people looked around The starters took their places And he was nowhere to be found! They said his coach wasn’t happy With the way he was in shape But not to put him on the field Simply seemed like a waste He played the next game once again And scored a lovely goal But other than that he was mostly Ineffective, so I’m told They made it to the quarterfinals And were proud of their play But he was a disappointment And that’s all there is to say Then he went back to the Metros Where things weren’t going very good But he’d help them out Or so they thought he would He played a few games when he got back And he did well, but then He blew out his knee and it looked like Knee surgery again It wasn’t as bad this time He was back in six weeks The problem was that on the field The ‘Stars looked rather meek They started out on top But then lost more and more By September their place In the standings was poor When he came back he score Another goal or so On the whole, the team looked About as threatening as Play-doh The second last of the season He looked good on the attack But someone tripped, fell and all of a sudden His cleat was in their back And then he was ejected The team began to fall apart The goalie tripped somebody else The ref pulled out a red card! The game was soon over And of course his team lost To get to the playoffs, they must win The next game at all costs They gave it their best shot But without him to be their hero They lost again, SURPRISE! The score was 3-0 He started out the season well But then went in reverse His coach said he needed anger management Which only made things worse The coach was quickly fired And he was mending fast Determined that this season Would be better that the last He worked in the off-season He practiced and he ran When opening day came people saw He was a different man His team lost the first game The fans thought “Here we go...” But then they tied the next one And they put on quite a show And then they won the next one And the next one and the next And before he knew his team’s record Was the very best! He was scoring lots of goals again Just like the good old days Everyone was happy and They gave him lots of praise Now he’s doing it again Doing what he does best And European coached Are really quite impressed He may go overseas soon But for now he’s over here In his heart he feels this will be The Metro’s championship year No one is quite like him No one’s talents match his You never know what he’ll do next That’s why we all love Mathis Any editing suggestions?
Thanks, lol. It's my masterpiece. I tried to make it shorter, but I couldn't really cut out anything...
Re: Re: The Story of Clint I had the same thought. It's not bad, but you are going to need people with 10 free minutes on their hands to read it. Like the scene in A river runs through it "Good. Do it again, half as long". Anyway, I applaud the effort. Keep at it. And in your free time work on some songs, 4-6 lines long that we can sing at matches .
One more suggestion: Write music to it and make it the longest chant in history. It will take us the first 30mins of a match to get it done.
A lovely peom! For me your peom it is not too long. This season I have witnessed great moments when Client shows his talents - they were amazing. As to his recent PK goal: how did the ball get through so many legs is beyond me.
mathismetro19... ...that was by far the best message I've read in this forum so far this season. Well done.
Thank you so much everyone~sorry it's so long, but I thank you for taking the time to read it ( I don't think I would...)
Nice to see an ode to Cleetus. He deserves it. It's taken alot of Balls to come back from 2 torn ACL's. Let's hope he stays healthy and fulfilles his destiny as the best American Player of the 21st Century.
