Maybe not: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...ng/2005/03/22/bonds.out.ap/index.html?cnn=yes I wouldn't mind so much him going past Ruth if he hadn't made those stupid comments about wanting to pass him basically cause Ruth was white. I will have to find the exact quote, but to me that just summed up what an ass Bonds is.
I'll paraphrase Bonds. You broke me. My kids are crying. Go pick on someone else. For years we have had to deal with this guy's arrogance and now the shoe is other foot. He can't handle the truth. His named should be changed to Baby Bonds. For those who are Barry supporters, look at your hero. He can't stand the heat. Kind of reminds me of another so-called hero, Big Mac.
Ditto, Bonds can cry me a river and I could care less. Here's a man making a bazilion dollars playing a GAME and he acts like a little prima donna bitch. Face it, he got caught and his attitude over the years make people revel in his demise. I hope he never puts on the uniform again and disgraces a proud game played by thousands of proud FAIR men. I say if you want to put an asterisk next to anybodys name, put it next to Ruth's. * Denotes he hit all of his home runs on beer and hotdogs.
Yea, cause he's had it really easy for so long right?? Puhleeeease. While I agree that he sorta flipped out yesterday, I will say that he's been dealing with this pressure for a long time, and very very well. He's possibly the only pro athlete that people HOPE is on steroids.
Then there goes their division title that everyone is predicting. Their team is much different when he's not playing.
SORTA flipped out? My guess is that Sunday's SF Chronicle article was the straw that broke the camel's back for Barry, mentally. If the ex-mistress hadn't mentioned that Barry told her he did roids, the article probably wouldn't have been published. Some of the other stuff was quite personal, but hey, that's life under the microscope and Bonds should deal with it better. One of Barry's biggest problems, IMO, is that he grew up a child of privilege, has pretty much had his ass kissed his whole life, was allowed to do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted, and never had to admit when he did something wrong. I think it's perfectly normal -- in Barry's eyes -- to deny everything, try to deflect the blame to the media, etc. He's never had to be accountable. I think there's more to it than meets the eye, though. Barry played well after other crises, such as his divorce from Sun and his father Bobby's death. But he also did take a little time off to regroup before/after his father's death, and he could quite possibly be exaggerating the knee injury publicly in order to get some down time now. The only thing I'll say in Barry's defense at this point is that it must be mentally taxing to deal with all the steroid hoo-ha coupled with the frustration of being seriously injured for the first time in his career. The combination of the two would get anyone stressed out.
Some reporters GET IT and have the balls to write it: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7269936/ Spare us the pity party, Barry Star has nerve to blame media for image he created Some reporters are JACKA$$ES and still KISS UP to Bonds despite him being acheater and jerk: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7267819/ Bonds may miss mark, but you've got to admire historic chase Admire???? Admire what that he juiced up and cheated to get where he is?? What a disgrace. If Bonds returns (I doubt it ..he will hide from all this) idiots like Celizic will continue to suck up to this cheater.
Did Barry use steroids? Yeah, probably, The circumstancial evidence is pretty strong. Is that enough for me to say that he definitely used them? No. Why don't we wait for the investigations to be over? I don't understand this insane desire for instant gratification when the whole Balco thing is in the courts. We'll find out soon enough, and if Bonds IS cleared, to my admitted surprise, a lot of people will end up with asshat pie on their face. And while I've never had asshat pie, I don't hear good things.
But you left off the BEER!! Were they legal? Did he drink before the legal age limit of the time? How could he be such a good pitcher AND hitter? Inquiring minds want to know..... Boy did I just date myself there or what?
Thanks... I'll add that I won't be completely surprised if I do get close-up with some asshat pie. I just think we have every reason to see this one through, and that automatically branding him a Conseco or Caminiti type roid user is totally unfair at this point in time.
Actually, alcohol was illegal for much of Ruth's career. Prohibition began in 1920 and ended in 1933. Ruth played from 1914 to 1935.
After reading Gary Smith's SI cover story and now this, I think we have a group of writers who can be called the, Wrath Of the Summer Of '98 Guys . All the guys who participated in the longball, love-in, who now feel like chumps. And look at the brushback he tosses at Clemens:
Yes. I have substantial doubts for a variety of reasons, not least of which is that as far as I could tell he actually didn't invoke the fifth and they didn't threaten to cite him for unresponsiveness...
The San Diego Union-Tribune printed another article about steroids today. It has some interesting analysis and statistics with lots of scientific terms. The beat soccer writer (or maybe its the other way around) actually wrote the article for some reason. Here it is if you wanna read it: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/baseball/20050331-9999-lz1s31sterds.html

(AP) -- The North Dakota Senate unanimously approved a resolution Thursday asking baseball commissioner Bud Selig to reinstate Roger Maris' 61 home runs in 1961 as the major league record. Maris' mark has been surpassed six times since 1998, but baseball's steroids scandal has called the recent records into question. ``In North Dakota when we think something has been wrong, we try to make it right,'' said Sen. Joel Heitkamp, a Democrat who sponsored the resolution. ``And when it comes to Roger Maris, and when it comes to steroids, and when it comes to how people have taken this record away ... that's not right.''
Wow, North Dakota really is a worthless state if they pulled that crap. That is political grandstanding at its finest. It's moments like these that make me think libertarians have a point. I don't like steroids, but the number of people against steroids who also happen to have huge political agendas has really made me stick two fingers up at the anti-steroid crowd. Plus everything short of Satan-worshipping has been accused at steroids and at its users.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2029037 TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Devil Rays outfielder Alex Sanchez was suspended 10 days for violating baseball's new drug policy, the first player publicly identified under the major leagues' tougher rules.
The biggest slap-hitting outfielder in the game..the man with something like 14 extra base hits last year. Comique.
Hopefully, this will help dispel the myth that it's only the bulked up guys who are using. Steroids (and doping in general) are used by all types of athletes with all types of bodies: lean sprinters like Marian Jones, endurance bikers like Tyler Hamilton and Richard Virenque, soccer players, basketball players, and on and on... As many users have attested, they improve just about every aspect of your game, in just about every game. This is particularly important for baseball fans, as roids apologists often parrot the line about how "they can't help you hit a changeup." Bullshiit. Absolutely they can and do.
