Soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the country in terms of participation and popularity.

In one important aspect of football, America is even ahead of all other countries in the world. This would be in relation to women's football. Besides being reigning World Cup champions and possessing some of the top women's players in the world, the U.S. is also the first country where a full professional women's league has been started. The WUSA (Women's United Soccer Association) began play in 2001 and features most of the top women footballers in the world.
