Tottenham one of three clubs opposed to ticket price caps for away supporters in Europe. More proof that for the chairman and his cronies, $$$ are more important than putting a decent team on the pitch. https://www.spurs-web.com/spurs-new...-among-those-to-oppose-new-ticket-price-caps/
Great article on our old skipper and scout, David Pleat, the man who discovered Dele. Unfortunately, we learn of more sliding-door moments - Pleat reveals he recommended we sign Jarrod Bowen, Ivan Toney, and Ollie Watkins when we could have got them for next to nothing, but You-Know-Who said no. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5731742/2024/09/07/tottenham-pleat-levy-sugar-hoddle-dele/
Like Dele? And he recommended Maddison when he was a teenager at Coventry. I would trust his judgment over footballers over Levy's any day of the week and three times on Sunday.
Good job you weren't on here when Pleat was bringing in the shit the Hoddle had to work with. The way you hammer Levy for shit coverage like Van de Ven and Dragu, I can only imagine how Acimovic and Bunjevcevic would've gone down.
We're reminiscing of the good ol' days of Sugar's managerial appointment masterstrokes of Peter Shreeves, Doug Livermore, Ardiles, Gerry Francis, Christian Gross and George Graham.
Bentancur faces a lengthy ban from the FA for his racist remarks about Sonny over the summer. Could be as much as 12 matches.
George Graham won as many cups at Spurs as all of Levy's appointments combined. And believe me, I was no fan of Sugar.
I am hearing it could be 6-12 games. I remember Luis Suarez got 8 matches for his famous 'negrito' remark to Patrice Evra. I am seriously wondering about the mentality of some of our players - Bissouma taking laughing gas and now this - and remember he is serving a 4-game ban internationally for throwing bottles at spectators at Copa America.
Not really 'news wire' stuff, and probably not worth it's own thread; but anyway, something I saw elsewhere ... Combined Prem goals/assists: Sonny: 186 Defoe & Bale combined: 185 Lordy, he's been so good for us. Obviously he's spent most of his time with us in the shadow of Harry Kane, and now that Kane's gone ... ok, he's on the wrong side of 30. But fook me, he was far better v Brentford than what I'd been reading on SC. Maybe he's not the same ol' Sonny for 90 minutes anymore, but he's damn sure not done. I love Heung-Min Son, me. He's ace.
The club held its sham of a Fan Forum yesterday, where the club invite a select group of 'fans' whose questions are vetted beforehand. When asked what his greatest 3 achievements were as chairman, Herr Levy said: 1. Getting to the CL final. 2. Opening the new stadium. 3. All the amazing players we have had. Strangely enough, the only trophy he's won, the 2008 League Cup, did not even get honourable mention. Laughable.
At the same forum, question to Ange: Is it time to show more pragmatism? Teams that win trophies have solid defenses as well as attacks. Ange: You're spot on mate but that won't be us. As much as we want success, there is a Spurs way, I won't deviate from that. WTF? What Spurs way? The way that has seen us win 2 trophies in the last 32 years?
Herr Levy on what he thinks of criticism of his record as chairman: 'I have very thick skin and just ignore it. Makes me want to be more successful.' More successful? What success is he talking about? One trophy in 24 years?
TBF whether we like it or not there is a Spurs way. The club has historically been the home of “swashbuckling” football. Conte and Mourinho arguably got sacked not for losing, but for losing (and winning) in very dull ways.
For me, the Spurs Way is what we were from around 1951 to 1991, a period when we won the bulk of our major honours: 2 league titles, 6 FA Cups, 2 league cups, 2 Uefa Cups and 1 Cup-Winners Cup. And we did it playing entertaining football. That is the Spurs Way, entertaining football AND trophies. Since 1991, we have had some periods where the Spurs Way has briefly resurfaced, particularly under Jol, Redknapp and Pochettino, but even they failed to win anything. This barren period has not surprisingly coincided with the two worst chairmen in club history. The Levy Apologists will point to the financial stability of the club, but that is to the benefit of the chairman and his cronies, not the first team, as witnessed by the lack of trophies. So when Ange says stupid things like that, and Levy says 'We've got our Tottenham back', it insults me as a fan who has seen what this club used to stand for, before the investment bankers and real estate moguls ruined it.
LAFC won the US Open Cup, so you can add Hugo Lloris to the list of players who have left Spurs and gone on to win a trophy elsewhere.
The Academy side (which has struggled this season) were down 4-1 at the half and have come back to draw 5-5 and win on penalties.
Penalties? What competition? edit: I've just had a look. Something new called the 'National League Cup'. It gives some Prem and Championship clubs' U21s a chance to play against some 'National League' - which is apparently what they're calling the Conference now (essentially England's fifth tier) - teams. I can't see anything in it for the Conference (sic) clubs other than a not-huge paycheck, so it's tough to guess as to how they'll prioritize it. Will we be competing against 5th tier second teams or the best that Wealdstone and Woking have to offer? I suppose it doesn't really matter; either way it'll give some kids the chance to play against grown professionals - perhaps not the best players, technically, but who will bring a no-nonsense 'this is how I make my living' approach to football that you can't replicate with other kids.
