Sheringham makes sense only if Bruce is looking for an assistant, and since Teddy never played at Virgina, he isn't qualified.

With Angel there, Teddy would be better suited to run with a team that could use a little vet leadership, say Columbus or KC.

But his age is a problem. The turf in a couple of the stadiums will eat him up and frankly, a mid afternoon game in July in Dallas might just kill him.

I still remember the Teddy who scored in stoppage time for ManU over Bayern, but he doesn't make sense at this age for any team unless he is willing to play in the $150-200K range and not command a DP.

Robbie Elliot former Newcastle and Leeds player might be coming to the U.S. to play. He was recently released by Leeds after only playing 7 games this season.

I think New York could be a high possibility as he owns a vacation home there (he was featured on travel channel real estate show). I think that purchase was many years ago as he was with Newcastle then.

As Bruce Arena tries to shore up his defence a player like Robbie Elliot would be a great addition. Also he's a left-sided player that would certainly add to any teams depth.

Is this some sort of new sport? Every time any player, anywhere on Earth, is released by his club, someone posts a link to the announcement and opines that "Bruce" will be signing him, should be signing him, is thinking about sifning him or has secretly signed him?

The winner is whoever can link to the most release announcements and find the most creative ways to imply that he's about to sign with RBNY without actually saying it becuse of course he's not.

Good G*d, people - don't things like actual facts and stuff matter any more?

I can't wait for the "Robben to MLS???" threads to pop up in N&A or General.

No. But appa'ently... he's on the outs b/c Mourinho thinks he's too fragile, or in BigSoccer terms, he's too JOB-esque.

And like others have said, any time anybody is on the outs anywhere on the planet, there's immediately a thread or 2 about it in the MLS fora.

Well I wouldn't rule anything out people were in denial that Beckham would be signed.

Some realistic signings who have just been released are:
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - released from Charlton
David Unsworth and Arjan De Zeuuw- realeased from Wigan
Claus Jensen and Radszinski- released from Fulham
Jason Scotland - out of contract by St. Johnstone

Difference is, he was linked to MLS and more specifically the Galaxy.

MLS is one thing, a team is a completely different thing.

My wife speaks italian and was chatting with her italian girlfriends in Milan yesterday and she said theres rumors on TV that Alberto Gilardino is interested in playing in MLS. Her friends said it was 'briefly' mentioned on a morning news channel and nothing else (but two friends back this up).

Ive spent the last hour trying to check italian news about this and nothing so far.

Lalas? Are you reading this? :)

This is a move that I believe is only a matter of time. Andriy's wife is American and supposedly she suggested he moves to England to learn English. You have to think that she would prefer he sons to grow up in the US if possible, and Andriy has already shown to be willing to move for her.

The real question is when it will happen. If he comes within the next year, it will be a real coup for MLS, since Shevchenko is only 30 years old. More likely is that he will play a 2 year contract out in Europe and come then.

why do we have to think that? that is a conclusion that should not necessarily be jumped to.

She cared enough that her kids learn English to get her husband to move to Chelsea. If she cares about the language of her home country, it's not unheard of that she would care about the culture as well and want her kids to experience the US. I don't think it's jumping to conclusions thinking that people are more comfortable in the country they grew up in. I wasn't talking about any inherent superiority of growing up in the US vs. England, only what Mrs. Shevchenko is comfortable with.

I didn't suggest that it would be unheard of for her to wish to live in the USA, nor did I suggest that you were "talking about any inherent superiority" between the USA and England. I was merely saying that your premise was comprised of nothing more than conjecture, and while there are reasons to support your idea of her desire to live in America, that still does not make it the more preferable place just because she is from America, and speaks English.

If learning English were the absolute precursor to moving to America, then you would be right. The problem is that the world, and life, is much more dynamic than that. Decisions are not based solely on one or two factors, and I'm trying to not simplify an assumption out of convenience.

I'm just trying to keep people skeptical when it comes to certain players, and the assumptions that they make about their potential desire to play in the USA. For all you know, Mrs. Shevchenko likes England more than the good ol' US of A (but I can't say that for certainty either, so I cannot assume it to be true).

To be honest, anymore UK or US culture is pretty homogenous. There are just bits and pieces that are slightly different but by and large we're a lot more alike than different. And if she wants her kids to learn english where better than england? :p An English accent will get them far more in America than an American accent will get them in England.

Steve Goff is reporting that RSL is in talks to send Cunningham to LA (I assume LAG) and acquire Alecko Eskandarian from TFC.

Implications: LAG is likely giving up a defender (Albright? Sturgis and Findley?) which is what would motivate RSL on this deal--getting an immediate defensive starter. They then need a striker (Eskandarian) and TFC has been looking at adding another SI (which means they'd have to get rid of one--thus Alecko--in order to add another SI). Granted they can't do this until June 15th (foreign transfer window) but RSL would want to do the deal immediately.

The deal, as reported elsewhere, is to and fro Toronto. Jeffro for Esky + 1st Rd pick.

There better be a quality forward available for RSL somewhere.

Gaven and Ruiz - come on down.

Gaven? OK, he's young, and I haven't given up on him yet, but you are trading a proven goal scorer for Esky, who hasn't quite been the same player he was pre-Matt Reis, and the chance at a U-whatever project or college player?

    I see more trades coming.

If you have an American accent in England you can get laid easier.

Which American accent are you talking about? My midwest news anchor accent or your Texas drawl? Or maybe they all work. ;)
