Just since there isn't one yet, I thought I'd start it. Not as good as it used to be but still better than 99% of the crap on TV these days.
Well, this is a pretty accurate assessment. As with most long-running shows, it's becoming a little too self-referential and it's starting to exaggerate its characters' personalities to the point where it ceases to be humorous (for a prime example of this, see the 'Angry Dad' episode). Still, the first appearance of the consistently hilarious Duff Man occurred only a few years ago. "Duff Man...experiencing NEW FEELINGS!...What...would...JESUS DO?!?"
Krusty: "I am going to suck" (squints) krusty: "Your blood" Krusty's Komedy Klassic was also funny. Homer's Change, Don't Touch was a good scene.
As much as I love the Simpsons, I think its time for Matt to cut his losses, and put all his effort into making an epic Simpsons movie. The new episodes just don't can't measure up to the old ones. It'd be a classy way for the best animated series in history to go out.
"Oh Jar-jar, nobody loves you but me." Comic Book Guy used to be my favorite character, but he got played out over time. He was great in that one Halloween special where Bart and Lisa got super powers and he was the evil villian, but he jumped the shark in that episode where he fell in love with Skinner's mom. The good thing about The Simpsons is there are so many supporting characters they can feature. I'm still waiting for the an episode featuring Bumblebee Man.
They did do a short (1 minute or so) feature on Bumblebee Man in the episode that was named something like "21 short stories about Springfield". He gets home from work, starts having accidents, and his wife storms out and leaves him. Sadly, part of that skit was cut for syndication.
At least they got a good episode in on Ralph......man that kid is the best! I could fill volumes with Ralph Wiggum quotes.
on comic book guy, let's not forget two classics: -- (in the episode where the neutron bomb hits, CBG is walking down the street, reading a comic): "but aqua man, you cannot marry a woman without GILLS!!! you're from different WORLDS!! (sees n-bomb bearing down on him) ...oh, i've wasted my life..." -- (in the episode with homer trying to get in shape after embarassing himself at the picnic; homer sits down, leaning up against a "satellite." structure tips, revealing CBG sitting with pants 'round ankles, reading a copy of "zebra girl"): "-sigh!- i guess i must find myself another 'fortress of solitude.'" and as for the show running out of steam... dr. hibbert, on his qualifications to teach "how to strip for your wife"): "i paid my way through medical school by dancing as 'malcolm se*.' i pleased the ladies 'by any means necessary!'" "...no one loves oily homer..." 3/16/03
"Me fail English? That's unpossible!" "What's a diorama?" "When I grow up, I want to go to Bovine University!" That might be the biggest problem with the newer Simpsons. While the older episodes had side characters bust out great quotes with ease, it now seems like the pacing is off. It's like everything they make Ralph or Comic Book Guy say is trying to be a one-liner. Seasons 3 should be out soon on DVD.
