Guys overwhelmingly cheered Annika Sorenstam, admiring both her ability and her willingness to risk losing to see how good she could be. They were thrilled with the possibility she might make the cut. Had she, guys would have tuned in en masse to cheer her on - just like guys turned out and watched the 1999 Women's World Cup in droves. That's because guys today like women who can play and win without exhibiting either male hatred or a need to proclaim some sort of moral superiority for breaking a barrier. Guys accept that top-flight female athletes make great friends, spouses and even heroes. That might not have been expected when King played Riggs, but it is reality today, and it is rather surprising that Danziger seems to have trouble with this. What does she want?
I disagree. If guys were like that this would not be a big deal. I agree with her that in a sense most of those men are likely giving her some kind of "patronizing' support rather than sincere support. In the end, if it's not a big deal than what was the fuss about? She's right, it shouldn't be a big deal.
