That was fast. I'll say this about the Rapids. In the past it seemed like they'd sign one of these guys, keep him on the roster, and never play him. Both the team and player would ultimately be hurt, I believe, as a result. It seems they have learned that no one benefits by those situations. I'm glad that the trigger's getting pulled sooner now rather than later.

Great question... but a tough one. Almost impossible to accurately answer as it deals only with the point when the Rapids make the official announcement that a player has left the team. More than a few players have fully separated from the Rapids and been released from their MLS contracts long, long before the news is made official. So what would be the criteria for this? I would assume he would have to meet each of the following at minimum: - under contract (not loaned or merely drafted; dev contract OK) - assigned a roster number - played at least one 90-minute match in uniform (preseason, friendly, cup or league) Anything else? Does it matter if a jersey was ever created with his name? Does it matter when he first arrived in Colorado versus when he was signed? What about the circumstances regarding his departure -- or perhaps more appropriately, the reason an official announcement was delayed -- should they be considered and if so, should their departuer be considered the day the player left town? I'll have to think more about who specifically... Amokachi never played a match for the Rapids, preseason or otherwise, but there was 3 weeks in between his arrival and official release. If we only consider the time that a player was actually available to the Rapids, the winner in this category might be everyone's favorite first-round draft pick from 1999, Andrew Mittendorf: Week 1: Drafted. Week 2: Knee Surgery. Week 5: First (preseason) game with Rapids. Week 7: Released.
