Sponsors should not be on shirts the fans buy/the club should make them available without it.

Problem is when that happens all sponsors feel inclined to pay less because they can't use fans as free advertisement banners.

Football fans are basically paying to promote the club's sponsors wherever they go.

Sponsors on shirts have been around since 1973 and i've not had heard one fan complain they don't want the shirt without the sponsor. It's a fashion brands in today's market.

It is even more shocking with F1 merchandise where you have a list of all of the team sponsors :D

It was probably cool 20-30 years ago in the Balkans to wear something western as people were really poor.

LatAm clubs sell almost all their jersey space to advertisers. HP logo is quite OK where it is, given the money they are paying (although HP are huge scammers). Now, if they required it to be blue, now that would suck.

Funny story but my brother once wore one of these and my father looked at him and said "what's this, you dressing up as a mechanic or something?" and I haven't been able to unhear it whenever I see somebody on the street with a shirt like this hahahaha.

Maybe not everybody feels represented by a gambling company, or a countries investment government fund enough to wear it.

When Bremen put on the company of a meat/sausage brand on the kit that was famous for terrible living conditions for the animals, most of the organized fans staged protests and either defaced the kit or returned it.

Sponsors were relatively harmless in the past, to downright iconic with the Bayern shirts having the Commodore computer brand on the for example being fondly remembered.

Betting companies make too much money to not be sponsored in football, it's 2026.

I don't really care what sponsor is on the shirt, it's just something that has always been there 13 years prior to my birth

I see your point AppleBob but i definitely care about what sponsor is on the shirt. I am not anti sponsor name on the shirt but it does matter to me which brands my team takes money from. I know many others who feel the same way.

But we also know this is part of the business. Do i wish that we would have sponserless shirt, hell yeah. But that's not reality. You guys remember the centenary shirt? I vaguely remember reading a rumor that the club is gonna sell those sponserless shirts for a limited time. I know so many fans who will buy those. They look sick. I might pay extra and get a Raul 7 on the back.

I stopped buying the shirts when we had Bwin as a sponsor (bought one actually, thinking I could just rip off the sponsor label, but then stopped because ripping off the label left behind a dirty mark).

Only good thing about Bwin sponsorship was that we got to see RM playing with plain jersey in France as gambling promotion was banned there. Spain banned gambling promotion few years back.

Teka RM jerseys were aesthetic. So were O2 Arsenal and Sharp Man Utd jerseys.

My cousin went to Spain and brought me back a Cannavaro RM shirt with the bwin at the front. I loved it of course, because Fabio was one of my favorite players ever but the bwin thing always annoyed me. I also tried to take the stitching out but it would leave the outline visible. I ended up gifting it to one of my juniors in college who we had convinced to become a football fan (he's been a steadfast Chelsea fan since). The only RM jersey i bought (or was gifted) that i don't have with me.

Sick. That's really the best one. I bought the TEKA one last year when the club sold it as a limited edition but the one you have is absolutely one of the best ones. It looks equally cool in all white too.

Yes i remember that. Was always so nice to see the guys with the sponserless shirt. I recall another time when the rain made the shirt clear. It might have been when we did that collab with the famous japanese artist. I also remeber Bale saying that from all the football jersey's he's worn his favorite is the one with the dragon.

Absolutely they are. My best friend would always wear the Arsenal (dark purple alternate one with the O2) Henry shirt after every game Arsenal won. Very neat shirt as well the Sharp United one. Kits just looked better back then. I really like my TEKA one too although it gets hot in the sun. The Benzema one i have (was wearing it yesterday) has much more comfortable material.

Here's a question for everyone here.

At what age does it become "not cool" to wear a football shirt in public.

I was wearing a Benzema (blue away) shirt yesterday and my sister started a whole debate about this. I personally think there is an age after which a grown man should stop. I just don't know when? Lmao. But that's just my perspective.

    What you guys think?

I saw a near 70 year old woman wearing the England shirt at the supermarket (the day of their match against Argentina) If she can do it, you're fine.

I think if you care what looks cool or not to other people, you’re still at the age where you haven’t earned the right to wear what you like.

I don’t think shirts are an age thing. I never wear them randomly, i would wear them if playing football or doing something football related, but I think you should always wear what you feel comfortable with and ignore other people’s opinions on the topic. I wouldn’t have a second thought seeing a man in his seventies or eighties wearing a football shirt on a sunny day, except for thinking “cool shirt” if it was a nice one.

Other people can wear what they like, they can’t tell you what you have to wear.

Do what you enjoy and what makes you feel good. You are not breaking any societal norms or offending anyone.

I never wear football shirts out, but I’m picky.

I think they look decent when walking down to the pool at a resort or walking to the beach (random but I like the look at that time), or obviously when playing football or attending a football game.

I got this beauty for Christmas, with Guti on the back. I live in Barcelona, so I don’t get many chances to wear it, but now that I’m away on holiday, I fully intend to wear it day and night until my wife gets sick of seeing it :ROFLMAO:

I only wear one to a game.

I do however have an entire closet worth of NY Sports teams hoodie and hats, along with hoodies and gear of my local clubs.

It depends on the person. I look bad with a jersey on. So, I never wear one. I attended three Madrid game in my life. So, i cannot say that I can only wear a jersey to the game.
