Talked to my friend who works for the Metro Front Office. The vote for the Harrison Stadium in the Senate is on November 14th, and earlier today I was watching the Senate voting on other issues on Local Teaneck TV Channel 70. I don't know about anyone else that lives in Bergen County, but at least now I know when it is. I guess call up either Cablevision or Optimum Cable to find out in your area in Bergen County or any of you folks in the neighboring counties. It started at 2PM earlier today on Halloween, I don't know if there will be a time change but check it out. I don't remember the website of the NJ Senate but go to Yahoo and check it out. Or if one of you guys reads this please add it on.

Well I don't see it specifically listed on the schedule for the 14th, but my ticket rep did tell me the same Nov. 14 date. No further financing issues really, but it has to pass the Committee vote and THEN pass the full Senate. For all intents and purposes, however, passage by the Committee should all but guarantee passage in the Senate because of the way the Senate is structured. By the way, here's the link to view the Legislative calendar. No mention of the bill yet. FYI, the Econ Growth & Tourism Committee is a Group 4 Senate committee. The committee meeting must be a special session (10 am), as mentioned on 11/14.
With NYC winning the right to represent the US in competition for the 2012 Olympics, will this have an effect on our proposed stadium? They will need sites for 7-man rugby which will probably be a replacement for baseball/softball, if the latter two are eliminated for 2008 on. Imagine Harrison in the Olympics!
Can't hurt. I think that Harrison hosting soccer games would be a big possibility if NYC gets the Olympics (decision due in 2005). One less facility for NYC to build, and it will still be quite new 10 years from now.
Don't know, but one of the key features of the NYC bid is that all venues would be in a 20 mile radius. So unless they make an exception for soccer, Harrison would have a good shot.
That's the exact question I came in here to ask. It would seem that a "Yes" vote on The Stadium would now clearly be in the State of NJ's best interest. Good luck to yous.
I do not see a correlation. First, there is no gaurentee that NYC woud want to go to NJ for events. If they did, NJ could offer up Giants Stadium, Rutgers, etc. Also, I don't see NJ legislature voting to build a stadium that MIGHT be used for a sporting event that MIGHT be held in the area. I would not pin the Metros Stadium to the NYC Olympics. As was mentined earlier, we have tried pinning the Metros Stadium to another project and it got us nowhere.
Re: Re: The Senate Vote for the Stadium is November 14th. Yes they did, & when Atlanta had the games, soccer was played in Birmingham, Orlando, Miami, & Washington DC. If New York wins the bid, I would expect soccer to be played at Foxboro, Giants Stadium, Philadelphia's new stadium, & DC. Or something like that. I doubt they'd put games in a 25,000-seat stadium even if GS is used for something else.
Right now they're pegging Giants Stadium, Rutgers, West Point, and the Yale Bowl as the soccer host stadiums.
The Latest Information November 14th in Trenton is the 1st major hurdel for the senate to pass the bill S1404. If majority votes tally Yea, It will procide to a 2nd vote on November 21st. If that is also a majority vote of Yea, IT'S TIME TO SHINE THOSE CEREMONIAL SHOVELS LADIES AND GENTLEMAN! But if there is a majority of a Nay vote on November 14th, then the bill is officially dead. So this is the official information of the Harrison stadium bill. Make sure you triple send those letters. I did.
If they build it and NYC gets the Olympics, they will use it. They'd be foolish not to. But it probably would not be for men's soccer -- more likely either field hockey or women's soccer prelim rounds. The venue would be too small for the men's games. As far as the stadium being in NJ, no big deal. The original plan had the Meadowlands Arena and GS being used for events. They'll move the arena events to Newark.
That'll work out perfectly if, by that time, they finally come to their senses and move ice hockey to the Summer Games.
