    Yeah, look at this nonsense.

Win two home games against teams you're ostensibly been beating all season? Easiest path to the final in my memory and still botched it.

LAFC are chokers. They really struggled this year against MLS' better clubs. It's no wonder when they have to play other good teams in the playoffs, they struggle. Yea it's impressive to beat up on the bad MLS teams. I mean we managed to have a losing record this season against teams that were in the bottom half of the standings, but you have to be able to beat the big boys too. LAFC cannot.

I generally love the playoffs, but the idea that LAFC losing in the conference finals makes them not the greatest team in MLS history is laughable. They fully redefined expectations at multiple levels for an MLS club. Dominant team guided by MLS’ all-time most talented player.

    guided to WHERE?
to another playoff exit at home

Yeah I don’t know how they can justify the “greatest MLS team. Did they forget early DC United? Houston Dynamo would have had several cups if not for us. They won Back to back in 2006 and 2007. Made a couple conference finals and made a couple MLS finals against us from 2006-2012.

Then there was us. With Omar Gonzales, AJ Delagarza, Sean Franklin and Todd Dunivant in back. Not to mention Beckham Keane and Landon Donovan. We would have mopped LAFC.

In normal soccer world the greatest team would most likely be evaluated by the titles team won.
In our closed circuit MLS world where league controls PR thru their own resident writers and thru external prostitutes they can come up with any criterion for "the greatest team ever" - highest number of points, wins, goals scored, or "just because".
BTW numbers mean nothing comparing MLS 2019 edition to let's say 2002 season.
    2002 - 10 teams, 140 games played, 421 goals scored (3.01 per game), top scorer Vela 34 goals, Shitvas ppg - 0.47
    2019 - 24 teams, 408 games played, 1241 goals scored (3.04 per game), top scorer Ruiz 24 goals, Galaxy ppg - 0.55

    Correction of above text:
    Shitvas ppg 0.47 for 2019
    Galaxy 0.55 ppg for 2002.
And top scorers are reversed of course too.

That quote from Maurer is truly ridiculous. You can't even be in the discussion for best of all time if you have not won the MLS Cup!

Or put another way: LAFC has managed to win one playoff game out of three, while playing all of them at home. That IS a truly stunning accomplishment.

Aside from these, the only other "do-or-die" games in the league were against us and of course, they choked all but the latest. Even then, they conceded 3 goals and benefited from a couple of big refereeing decisions and some truly awful defending.

Then there's the issue that nobody has brought up yet: it's very rare that any team (or of course, player) is viewed as "great" based on a single season. The San Jose Earthquakes put up great numbers in 2012 and the fixtures between us were similarly epic that year. Either side of that season, they were a non-event. That's not unusual in this league.

If they start next season in the kind of form they ended this one, they'll be very ordinary and all this hyperbole will look foolish.

What truly galls me here is that MLS routinely fails to recognize and promote real, organic narrative. I always use the strong FC Dallas side of a few years ago as an example: stellar year going into the playoffs. USOC and Supporters Shield winners. Youngest and cheapest roster in the league. A ton of American youth.

This naturally compelling journey that involved a chase for a domestic treble was scarcely alluded to by the league, let alone a focus of their coverage.

Yet when it comes to manufacturing a narrative, like they have with LAFC this season, they're all-in.

Speaking of this narrative thing, if Seattle wins, I’ll be pissed if the league starts to push them as the best team of the decade.

I’ve already seen tweets talking about Seattle being in 3 of the last 4 MLS cup finals and many WC finals as well.

Sorry, that’s a cool stat, but even with the last 4 years, we dominated.

I think that we can admire what Seattle did over the last ten years, especially as an expansion team, but we’ve had more impressive dynasties.

Always seems weird to me that the league doesn’t really celebrate a lot of the history that our franchise has built.

TOR played too cute in this game. Possession w/o meaning. Everyone on their team seemed more interested in passing than scoring.

    They missed Altidore big time.

Congrats to the Sounders. Mad respect to Brian Schmetzer.

    Still hate their fans.

TFC were pretty hamstrung without Altidore. His goal saved it from being an embarrassment, so kudos to him. But can't take anything away from Seattle.

They really should try to get away supporters to the Cup Final and not allow the sort of gamesmanship that occurs during the regular season, IMO.

Sounders on their heels defending for most of the game and with 35% possession is hardly domination. Plus their first goal was a lucky deflection of a bad shot coming against run of play. But Seattle hung in there on defense and took advantage of their opportunities so congrats to them.

Toronto's chances of winning the game dropped when "I didn't see a foul" Alan Chapman was named the referee. You could have made a case that Leederdam deserved a red card when he came in late, with studs up and took out a TFC player. Alan didn't even call the foul.

Schmetzer is good, but more so than his tactics, what's really laudable is he's built the perfect team for MLS. Sorta like Schmetzer himself, Seattle are unassuming. They're happy to fly under the radar, they don't need to show up in the headlines or highlight reels or best XIs, they aren't committed to enforcing a "Sounders style" (even though they can play nice soccer, like on the 2nd goal) -- on the contrary, they're able to remain consistent by being tactically flexible and adapting to the team in front of them.

Part of my would prefer to have a pragmatist like Schmetzer over GBS, who's shaping up to be an ideologue.
