Piszczek disqualified by PZPN for 6 months. I guess that makes him illegible for play in the NT...does it have any bearing on his club play though?

I have mixed feelings about this. Happy that PZPN is finally doing something with regard to curruption without regard to the player and his importance, sad that we just lost our best flank defender for six months, or maybe more, if he decides not to come back after this humiliation

Okay, explain the system to me. I would like 3 DM, one of them (Matuszczyk) with some offensive potential.

Tell me how you see it. But please don't say, put Peszko or Mierzej as one of the 3 central midfielders as Smuda tried to do. These are 100% offensive minded players, unlike Matuszczyk (he is both).

Is the problem with the flanks???

I am not an expert on the 3-5-1-1

    I hope you are...... :)

You are right. The way I set it up wouldn't work. The only other way, I see is like this...... but it would leave Kuba out.

Szczesny- Dudka, Perquis, Krychowiak (he can play D)- Piszczek, Boesnich (wingers, full backs)- Polanski, Matuszczak (DF)- Obraniak (attack MID)- Lewy (Link between MID and ATTACK)- Jelen (ATTACK).

Let me know if you think this will work.

yea I don't think either of the teams fans know that much about each other. it's funny I was watching Mexican TV interview some Polish fans and all they seemed to know is that Mexico sent an u-22 team to the Copa America and did bad and the Mexican goal keeper from like 15 years ago Jorge Campos.

hope it's a good game. good luck

To tell You the truth in my home everyone cheers Mexico during big cups (as we usualy don't watch friendlies or CONCAF eliminations for WC). And one of my favourite players in childhood was Pavel Pardo :) But I'm not your usual football fan also.

yea I guess the big soccer fans tend to know more. they were saying a lot of Polish soccer fans like Chicharito because he plays on ManU.

that's pretty cool about Mexico getting some support in Poland though, I hadn't really known about that. I've seen on youtube Mexico getting huge support in Ireland. Also, awesome support from Germany because Mexico always makes their home base there when they go to Europe.

For me, in the past I've definitely rooted for Poland. the last time Poland played Germany in the WC I was hoping bad Poland would win. they were so darn close and Germany ended up winning.

the game today wasn't that great but at least it was good experience for both teams.

Quarterfinals Euro 2012 Gdansk PGE Arena. Poland - Germany. Score ???

Man, I was sure we were going to win that one after Kuba scored from the PK. But I guess our defenders forgot that Germany always plays to the end....

What can you say about Szczesny, though...a true superstar in the making, may be one of the best keepers ever by the time his career is over. If not for his heroics in the first half a draw would have been a wet dream.

Clone Lewandowski! Ahhh, it's too late for Euro unfortunately...
And we need left fullback before Wawrzyniak will be the cause of another two goals during Euro...

was glad to see Wasilewski back with the team, heck, glad to see him running after that awful injury...

we should have Piszczek in our back line (barring some crazy suicidal decision from the PZPN) for the EURO

Yes, I was also happy to see Wasyl and he brings alot of character and leadership to this team. Something this team lacked. Sadly, he isn't good enough to be a starter on the right (Piszczek is much better), but since one CB position is still up for grabs, why not consider Wasyl for it???

I mean he gets beaten regularly on the wings, which is why he should not play there... but he is very strong and mobile...... could he do well at CB with Perquis???? I would love to see that.

He's got one more advantage when he's on the pitch - our FK can be dangerous finally. When Polish NT scored after FK or CK last time (or somebody could provide two examples for each one)?

I agree with leszek-antonio that we should concentrate on becoming as good as a counter-attacking team as possible, that is, doing what comes naturally, and not worry about perfecting positional attack. We simply do not have good enough players to ever be competent at that.

However, Majster's point is also valid, the one about set pieces. If we are going to work primarily with counter attack, we need to develop our set pieces. Right now, they are non-existent. Countering teams often get fouled in danger areas and need at least two specialists to execute set pieces well.

For sure, we had pretty good set pieces with Engel's team I think, since then it hasn't been that strong, but it should be. This is an area we should master....why? Because we actualy can. And with Perquis or for example Wasyl going in on the set pieces, that would make sense. There was one very good example of that in the Germany game.

We were up 1-0 and Wasyl and Perquis both had a good chance near the Germany goal with their heads...but somehow they missed the ball. That was a very good chance to go up 2-0.

    My prefeered line up:

    Szczesny

    Piszczek Wasyl Perquis Boesnich

    Polanski Murawski (Pekalski)

Kuba Peszko(Obraniak, Grosik, Mierzej or Rybus)

    Lewandowski

    Jelen (Brozek, Grosik)

I am not sure about Peszko on the left, we all saw he wasted 3- 100% chances....but what I really liked about him, was that he was able to get into them..... his speed....it was very good. I don't know if Obraniak has the same speed, I don't think. I like Lewandowski a little back, because he shows qualities of playing well in that positon and could do well. Also, I really like the speed of Jelen or other striker(Brozek, Grosik).

If gelled well together and if clear about what they need to do.... attack high up the field, and counter-attack, as well as take their chances on set plays, this will be our best chance at surprising a top Euro team and having a decent tournament.

Our biggest threat will be the defense and how to fix it as good as possible.

    - Boruc (Celtic Glasgow)
    - Smolarek (Racing Santander)
    -Zurawski (Celtic Glasgow)
    -M. Lewandowski (Shachtar Donieck)
    -Roger (Legia Warsaw)
    -Krzynowek (somewhere not playing)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Hmmm.... The (potential) Euro 2012 squad (ON PAPER) looks better than the 2008 squad. Much more quality players, also in their best years. Some of the 2008 players could be back, but as reserves this time (ex. Wasilewski, Dudka, Wawrzyniak). This tells you that the quality of individual players has improved.

Both Boruc (2008) and Szczesny (2012) are(were) top quality keepers, world-class level. Its difficult to say who was better, so the position of Goalkeeper hasn't changed. We still have amazing quality here.

The 2008 team, it seemed had very week full backs (Wasyl, Golanski), as opposed to the potential for 2012 (Piszczek, Boesnich). Therefore, these traditionally weak positions will improve alot, which could also help the team's offensive abilities.

Lets try to remember Euro 2008 games vs Germany and Austria..... the right and left back were very very weak.... like swiss cheese. They also didn't have anything to offer going forward. With Piszczek and hopefully Boesnich that will change for the better.

The CB's.... well. Its possible they were better in 2008, with experienced Jacek Bak (although playing football in Qatar lowered his quality), Zewlakow and Jop).

However, with the addition of Perquis, I think the 2012 CB's are at least going to be at the same level. In fact, I think that Perquis will turn out to be a much better defender than an old, Qatar based--- J. Bak in 2008. That's just my opinion. He is just lacking a partner at CB.

Moving on to the midfield... The 2012 team seems to have a better midfield. With players like, Blaszykowski, Polanski, Obraniak, Murawski, Mierzej, Peszko, etc, it seems superior to the 2008 midfield which featured: M. Lewandowski (a very good player in 2008), Krzynowek (past his time and not playing club football), Lobodzinski (seriously weak replacement for Blaszczykowski), Roger, Dudka and Murawski (again).

In 2008, the 2 Defensive Midfielders were M. Lewandowski (he was at his prime) and Dudka (nothing spectacular, but not terrible either)
In 2012, the 2 Defensive Midfielders will probably be Polanski (solid and an improvement on Dudka) and either Murawski (solid, almost the same level as M. Lewandowski in 2008) or Pekalski/Matuszczyk/....Dudka.

The 2008 team, really didn't seem to have any good wingers.... with Krzynowek (near the end of his road and not playing too much) as well as a very weak Lobodzinski on the other wing. The 2012 team looks much better on the wing (ex. Blaszykowski, Peszko, Mierzej... even Rybus or Obraniak)

Attacking/Center Mid: 2008- It was all about Roger who had to be supplemented by a very uncreative M. Lewandowski (Defensive Midfielder). He played okay (the same goes for M. Lewy). The 2012 version of Bialo-Czerowni should feature Obraniak or Mierzejewski or maybe even R. Lewandowski in that position. I think they will do as good of a job or hopefully better than Roger did in 2008. Also, since our wingers are much better, we might not have to depend on our defensive midfielders to try and be too creative (as was the case in 2008).

Finally, the forward position. In 2008, Smolarek (who had lost his form... and club) and Zurawski (who was very much coming to his end, like Krzynowek and J. Bak) formed our hopes in attack. They all failed, with Saganowski being our best attacker.... ofcourse not scoring.

The 2008 team was very depandent on Ebi Smolarek. Well, he failed to deliver at that Euro (his form wasn't there). Zuraw also didn't score anything (as in the 2 previous World Cups), leaving Saganowski as our only "in form" attacker.

The 2012 forwards seem better. There is also more depth. R.Lewy is still developing and already a good striker, capable of leading the Polish attack. He also seems strong mentally, which surely wasn't the case for Zurawski.

Also, Jelen (if healthy) is also a very proven goal-scorer who could be #1. I think Jelen is more lethal than Zurawski. Brozek and Grosik aren't that bad as reserves, considering what we had in 2008.... Zahorski anyone???

Its still early.... and much can change (hopefully for the better) but what do you think???....which team looks better, at least on paper???

Lets hope that the players from the 2012 team don't lose their places in their clubs (or at least play a good amount of games....) Also, lets hope we avoid key injuries (like Blaszczu in 2008). Although I feel the 2012 team has more depth and could afford an injury to a key player (even Blaszczu... with Obraniak or Peszko as alternatives for that position).

I am optimisic. At least on paper its looking better.

Lets hope Smuda can mix it together and gel it in time......cause that's another story.

    :)

    yes, good news

about time, Barrios is coming back for Borussia and Lewandowski better lay a claim to a starting spot before he gets sent back to the bench

From 13 goals scored by Borussia so far this season Lewy scored 5 and got 4 assists. He's crucial player for Dormund atm, so I think that Kagawa should be afraid more about his spot.
