I see your point. That's what I've argued that their game is supposedly less than the sum of it's individual qualities. But the results in itself have been good. Having said that, had they just lost to Spain, I could justify keeping him. But they were God awful in the whole tournament. In the WC at least you could lean on all of the injuries they had. Even if it costs money, I'd make a switch if I was the Federation.

He's been there for over 10 years I think. He's a senior employee and most likely has relationships in there that will last a lifetime.

The national teams are rarely like the club teams. It's hard to not admire him keeping such an extremely toxic job for this long.

It's not exactly an extremely toxic job, France has had a mostly amazing run under his spell including two World Cup finals back-to-back, one of them ending with them becoming world champions.

Reckon ZZ will wait until 2026 now. He's not taking any club job this summer.

The guy that held the job before him became unemployable after it. France have always had internal drama.

    Deschamps gets credit for surviving.

I feel like at some point he'll be out of the sport for so long it will be easy to justify giving the job to somebody else out of pure convenience.

Focus Online: Boohing Cucurella makes us look like losers and bad hosts.

Actually an interesting article. Cucurella did what the German fans would expect any German player to do. Shut up and play on.

These international competitions really skew things. The level is not the highest, the teams are groups of players who don’t really play together much, and there’s a lot of teams and players that aren’t really all that great.

That can make it interesting to watch definitely, but we can’t pretend it’s the highest level of football. If we do we end up with things like - Dani Olmo for Balon dor.

Yamal is the best player of Euro 2024. James is by far the best player of Copa 2024. Yes, these summer tournaments shouldn't be tipping points for BDR.

Except 3-4 English folks here, majority loved laughing at England's miseries in NT tournaments in previous years. But some of us are rooting for Jude to win this time. :D

The connection point between dutch and english football is the attitude despite the total lack of success.

I swear i consider people that use this phrase to be less qualified to operate heavy machinery or vote.

What a dumb ass way to describe a sport

I think that on the one hand, Deschamps' body of work must be respected. France have done well over his tenure.

OTOH, him being in the role for so long, and that team becoming a bit stale, and them playing below their level of quality is a compelling reason to never, ever keep a national team manager on for more than 1 cycle at a time. Same with Argentina/Scaloni, and other nations as well. IMO, its a job that should have frequent rotation in office, to keep things fresh.

By the time the World Cup starts, Deschamps will have worked more games on the French bench than the last 4 coaches combined. One of those four is actually the one with the second most games after him.

Getting good enough results to survive the job for that long is a skill.

Lol not sure how to argue with that. I’m not sure asking “where is your evidence base for this” will go anywhere

I’m not that bothered if they don’t but if England do go through I will be so happy the first thing I will think of is you, and I’m saying that as an Englishman

I haven’t watched any Copa, and from the games I’ve seen Yamal has been good, plus a great goal. But overall the quality hasn’t been that high, and some of the better players just haven’t performed.

If England win, I think they beat Spain in the final. England always lose when they come across a country most could pick out on a map. It's not even a quality thing, they just always let nerves get to them. We should be the Dutch, but I just don't see it happening.

If it does, I think it will be quite comfortable and we'll go on to beat Spain.
