    tell me about it...

the whole bloody offseason, every other team has been linked with or have signed a major international whilethe best teh Quakes can do is an A Leaguer and two cast-offs?

    grrrrr.......

    :(

If it helps, think of Donovan as the Quakes major signing of the winter. He could easily be in Leverkusen.

If it helps more, think of Mulrooney's decision not to go on loan as adding an impact player also.

Its more worrisome to hear about all the lingering injuries, like Ekelund, Russell, and Robinson.

Not that it'll do any good, but I just dashed off an email to the Quakes front office expressing my disappointment and concern over the lack of meaningful acquisitions. Every team has made huge inroads while we have signed other teams' cast offs. (Holding out hope that some of them might still contribute, but my expectations are pretty low at this point.)

This guy the Rapids just signed would have been a nice fit in particular. After seeing our new players in the Municipal game, I think we're looking at a frustrating season and I'm afraid that the positive inroads we've made the past two seasons are about to come undone.

The conversation would go something like this:

LA galaxy: We need a new player but we're over the salary cap...

League head office: Salary cap, what's that? No problem, just go ahead and sign him...

LA Galaxy: But he's an SI, and we have our limit already...

League head office: Limit, what's that? Bring him over, we'll think of something to tell the other teams...

LA Galaxy: You know, the other teams are starting to complain about our preferential treatment...

League head office: Don't worry, we'll just call them conspiracy nuts and ignore them until their team dies...

That's worrisome because we have no good players to pick up the slack, and Donovan cant do it himself.

League Head Office: Oh, by the way, here is a beautiful, state of the art stadium for you to play in....

Galaxy: Really! A new stadium?!? What's the catch?
League headquarters: You have to keep Cobi aroun for a few more years.
    Galaxy: Oh. Damn.

LA gets good players because they get them to take small contracts (usually because they played badly before or just like being in LA). I doubt that Lalas, Bo and Chacon's salaries put together equal what we pay for Ekelund. Besdies, their second best striker is Albright.

Your giving the Galaxy way too much credit AND innocence.

I agree with you on all but Bo.....i'm sure he's getting paid pretty well. APC, Lalas and Cienfuegos are probably taking less to play in LA. If you happened to see the LA/Crew match you probably agree that they werent the better of the two teams......only at finishing. They could easily be the forth best team in MLS with a very dangerous striker.

And even worse coupled with the reality we'll be missing players for full and U-21 Nats duties at various points. No depth, especially up front.

When Roger Levesque is expected to be ready to play? Sometime in June?
6"2 tall: he could be an answer up front

Rookie. I wouldn't expect much out of him. I saw him play a few times at Stanford and wasn't really wild about him there, and I'm pretty sure he's not ready to play a major role on this team this season. He's even greener than Ching and Mullan, and those guys may actually improve with consistent playing time.

They seem to believe Ching and Mullan are ready to play in MLS, based on that if they feel Wegerle is not ready he is definitely not the answer. The Quakes need someone up top with professional expirence, either in MLS or abroad.

    Levesque. Pshaw.

LA fielded a quality team with Cienfuegos, Hendrickson and Chacon on the bench.

We suck. We're screwed. Thanks MLS!

P.S. You know how quick I'd take Cobi Jones onto the Quakes' roster?

IMHO, Cienfuegos and Chacon are done and neither of them will make any significant impact this season.

    Well ...
Lalas came out of retirement and nobody was sure will he be able to play at all (turned out: he had his best ever season in MLS last year).
Chacon had a crappy season last year and got waived.
