The revs magic number is now 6 :)

Two wins and they are in the playoffs. Columbus and Chicago both cannot end the season with more then 38 points because they play one another twice :)

The only team that does not control its own destiny with regards to anything they're shooting for (division title, Shield, playoff spot) is DC. But even they're not technically out of it.

DC is all but eliminated. They need help from Three fronts:

    Dallas beating NE
    Columbus sweeping Chicago
    NE tying or beating NY

DC has to win all three games, 2 v. NY and one v. Dallas.

Alot has to fall into place for this to even happen

not sure its 6, it may be 7....if they get 6 from their wins, then yes...but these numbers also take into account points opponents fail to get....

columbus, kc and metro have 35
    chicago has 34
    revs 32
    dc is pretty much out...

so...5 teams are fighting for 4 spots...if columbus, kc and metro win one game, i'm pretty sure they're in (though i don't know what the record is against the revs....)....if chicago wins one and ties one...then they may be in too...so even if the revs win the next 2, it may not matter....(i may be wrong...i'd rather see the revs in then kc or chicago)

The thing is, if Chicago wins and ties the next two, that means Columbus lost and ties the next two. Ie, Columbus didn't win one.

Likewise you can look at all the cases for these two games. Results are from the Chi point of view. IE, W = chicago wins game. Also, W,L is the same as L,W so I didn't add in all the orderings.

    Chi v Col: W, W Chi 40, Col 35
    Chi v Col: W, L Chi 37, Col 38
    Chi v Col: L, L Chi 34, Col 41
    Chi v Col: W, T Chi 38, Col 36
    Chi v Col: L, T Chi 35, Col 39
    Chi v Col: T, T Chi 36, Col 37

If Revs win next two they have 38 pts. In all possible cases above, they are ahead of one or the other of Chicago or Columbus.

If the Revs win two, they pass either Chicago or Columbus. They also stay ahead of DC. Thus they are ahead of 2 teams and therefore (miracle) in the playoffs.

Whether they win the next two is the question.

On a related note, does anyone know if HalaMadrid will be posting the updated MLS Playoff Race thread soon?

Mlsnet.com has a playoff standings table similar to Hala's, but without some of its cool features like a list of remaining opponents, magic numbers, etc.
