What age groups does it cover? Where is the academy based? Is it a "pay to play" elite team?

    I think it's U16 and U 18, I don't know, and I think the answer is yes.

    Also U14.

It is an "elite" program funded entirely by SRFC. I assume it is a step above other local clubs like San Juan and Davis Legacy, etc. but don't know for sure.

Opponents will include the academy teams of the 'Quakes, Sounders, Timbers and Whitecaps.

Only cost to player and families is $100 tryout fee. Last I knew, they were training on the plastic at Mather Field. It's an official

BTW, ex-Earthquake Simon Elliott coaches the U13/14's.

Simon Elliot? Hah, strange but cool. Hopefully he teaches the kids to do more than just backpass... :p

One of the Academy Kids, David Burns, has been called up to the U20 U.S. Camp.

I like how quickly they're building the academy, with this being a hot-bed of soccer and all.

"Defender Nabilai Kibunguchy of Cosumnes Oaks High School was a member of the U-19 team that defeated Russia 2-1 for the Slovakia Cup on Friday. The UC Davis-bound Kibunguchy plays for Republic FC’s U-18 team.

Forward Shaft Brewer of Laguna Creek High participated in the U-18 training camp in Chula Vista in preparation for a series of matches in Mexico later this month and in June. Brewer had an assist on the winning goal in a 2-1 exhibition win over the Liga MX Tijuana Xolos U-20/18s on April 27. Brewer plays for Republic FC’s U-16 team.

Roseville midfielder Roberto Hategan competed for the U-16 team that beat Brazil 2-1 and England 6-5 in a penalty shootout en route to third place in the Tournament Delle Nazioni in Slovenia. Hategan plays for Republic FC’s U-14 team."

    Academy has some quality talent.

It's getting surreal seeing kids from high schools I know and were close too producing youth national team talent. All except my high school alum it seems.

It's amazing to see what a little exposure gets this area. The Academy is still just getting going and already they've had huge success getting recognition for players from this area. Going to be interesting to see if this level of success continues and whether we could see a USMT member from Sacramento in 10-15 years time.
