I think there's a strong possibility that Elon now considers himself the true leader of the country, and will push to be involved in many things.

Keep in mind that he aspires to live to be a space pioneer and ruler of new Martian territories - and he's getting old. Controlling the US president and US policies could seem like his route to that glorious future.

For example, when Musk babbles about cutting trillions from the federal budget, it might not be merely garden-variety tech bro libertarian idiocy (although that's part of it). He wants to have some of that money for space colonies.

Of course, he's basically delusional. So, as weird as his influence is now, expect it to get weirder.

I suppose what I am curious about is who will win the power struggle (see below) or will they each carve out their sphere of influence and co-exist?

    1. Elon Musk & the oligarchs
    2. JD Vance & the religious zealots
    3. Stephen Miller & the fascists

My guess would be a combo of #1 and #3

Yeah, no. 1 and 3 are basically aligned based on Elmo's tweets since buying out Twatter. No. 2 will definitely be the odd one out here, especially since JD Vance is basically a puppet of no. 1.

But then again, I could see all three of them wanting to oppress women, LGBTQ+ and black people. So I don't think there's gonna be any definite loser.

Pardon the nerdtrusion, but it puts me in mind of the Hegemon, Strategos, and Polemarch from Ender's Game. Three great tastes that taste great together.

So Vance is threatening to pull out of nato if the EU tries to regulate X. And so it begins.

Any excuse will do. They have already determined the outcome, now they just need to justify it, no matter how flimsy the justification.

Well with Drumpf in his new all encompassing power mode. I’m thinking about how he likes what Putin has done to aids who thought they had any real power.
Don’t live anywhere above singe story buildings Elon.

That's an old story, from 17 September. This is the original: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...lon-musk-x-twitter-donald-trump-b2614525.html

I am the last person to give Republicans the benefit of the doubt, but rehashing stories some months old is not the bombshell we might think it is and putting them in a misleading context (like implying it was something Vance immediately said after the election) hurts the credibility of the anti-Trumpers.

Yep. I was going to get to this. This is why I've said before that it's sloppy to keep posting some of this stuff in these threads without looking a bit into it. There has been a lot of misrepresentation of stories here even if the big picture may be somewhat correct. I think this type of stuff only hurts us.

It looks like Vance was responding to some politician in Europe threatening Elon if he re-platformed Trump. It's probably in relation to this:

EU’s Breton warns Musk on hate speech ahead of Trump interview; receives profane response

    https://www.politico.eu/article/eu-warns-elon-musk-hate-speech-donald-trump-interview-breton-x/

In return Vance is saying we shouldn't be allies with countries who don't respect our values (free speech). Sounds like overblown rhetoric but definitely something to be aware of. Not saying this is normal, but it also isn't "we just got elected so we are starting to roll our plan" kind of stuff.

I hear what you are saying here, but somehow I feel like Elon is in a class apart from the usual "best people." I think Trump idolizes him as a real gajillionaire, and will grant him more than usual latitude. Guess we'll see.

"None" is up to 23% of the voting population. That number is rising quite fast.

As someone who has been critical of people for doing the same…I agree and apologize as I wasn’t aware that was an old comment.

With that said…the United States and Europe are about to become geopolitical adversaries. Good times.
