To be clear, this is just a small thing now. There is every chance this will not grow into a big thing. No need to construct your isolation bunker yet. Unless that's your hobby, and then I say go for it.

But we are in what could be the early stages of a new pandemic. The latest incarnation of H5N1 bird flu is highly contagious - between birds - and is affecting countless birds all over the United States. Some humans have caught this bird flu, but they have all caught it from animals and not from other people. Yet.

Here's the part that explains why you should keep an eye on this. Note I said "caught from animals". Because another population that has caught a mutation of this bird flu is cattle, and particularly cattle in California. The largest cluster of people that caught bird flu were working with or drinking raw milk from such cows. There isn't a whole lot of interaction between birds and people in the US, but there is between cattle and people, one vector being drinking raw milk which is taking off among conservatives because they are dumb. The more the virus is bouncing around between cattle and people, the greater the chance of it changing to a form that is easily spread among people.

Don't worry about that, guys. When RFK cuts the CDC budget and all the epidemiologists there and at state health departments are laid off, we won't have a pandemic! It'll go away, like magic. If you don't test for it, then it's not real.

They could always cut back on per diem rates for international travel. The amounts they give are ludicrous. But given they are the primary beneficiaries of it, no way on earth would they reduce them.
