Here is a silver lining. Maybe a year from now Trump has declined so much that he decides to deliver the state of the union address to congress and doesn't deliver it verbally. This trend is continued by subsequent presidents.

I'm actually happy to see that Trump is nominating sideshow freaks like Gabbard and Gaetz for cabinet positions.

In the current situation, I think that the most dangerous authoritarians are people like Barr and Alito, who exercise their power under a facade of respectability and prestige. They are just as amoral and corrosive, but are treated with deference by a feeble and gullible mainstream media - and they enable other "respectable" Republicans to preserve the delusion that their enterprise has some semblance of decency or integrity.
