The Republicans are projected to have 220 or 221 seats in the US House of Representatives when they are seated in January. And 53 seats in the Senate.

Trump has asked New York Representative Elise Stefanik to be the UN ambassador, Florida Representative Mike Waltz to be National Security Adviser.

Senator Marco Rubio is being tapped to be Secretary of State (lol), and Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin keeps coming up in shortlists.

If he continues to pick appointments like this the US Congress will be unable to pass a budget during the first 100 days of Trump's term.

 

You're leaving out the other half of the story. Not only did Biden not make any attempt to enforce said ruling, but he meekly came to them and said, "Look, I'll pass your fascist immigration bill. Please don't hurt me?" And was laughed in his face when nothing happened.

If laws aren't enforced, it doesn't matter (this should be engraved into every visible surface Garland sees for the rest of his life).

 

Question that I don’t know the answer to…is there anything that stops those reps from serving in both roles? And is that just a norm or are they legally or constitutionally barred from doing so?

Because I could very easily see all of them either doing both…or leaving their cabinet positions officially (though not unofficially) open until their replacements are in place.

 

You cannot serve in two branches of government, with the exception of the Vice President.

Edit: went to find it, cannot. A bluesky post said Congressional Republicans have asked Trump to stop selecting congresscritters and he has ignored them.

 

Again….according to whom or what? Unless specifically barred in by the constitution…in language so clear that it might as well specifically address 6 members of the current court by name stating “We want to be perfectly clear to future justices Alito, Thomas, Rogers, Kavanaugh, Gorsich and Barrett that no…a member of the House of Representives cannot serve in both the house and the cabinet while awaiting their legislative successor to be sworn in”…this may not be the case.

 

Article I Section 6: "No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States..."

It would be impossible for the courts to rule otherwise.

Following up on my post from a couple posts back…one of the areas Putin may have miscalculated on is trying to use kompromat to control a sociopath. Particularly one that has already accomplished his main objective…getting elected to avoid dying in jail. And one that is equally adept at pushing propaganda and annihilating the truth as Putin is. Putin could have incontrovertible proof of Trump ********ing a billygoat while giving it a reach around and all Trump has to do is call it fake news and ramp up his own propaganda machine and the maga masses will still adore him. Perhaps Putin may get his face eaten too when it’s all said and done.
