It just looked really bad. No enthusiasm. Totally underwhelming. And nobody was there. If I was a foreign adversary watching this parade, I'd think the US Army looked weak.
Definitely NOT a lefty... The Minnesota shooter being a nutter Christian nationalist on stage. Sure, he was going to assassinate a bunch of Democrats and no Republicans, but MAGA says he’s a left-wing operation. Use your brain, folks. pic.twitter.com/giqGh2Cvvy— John Jackson (@hissgoescobra) June 14, 2025
Fortunate Son is trending on Xwitter. Didn't know the song, but I'm guessing that many of you know it is a protest song. edit - Forgot to say that it was played during the parade.
During the D.C. parade?!? I guess the same musicologists who misunderinterpreted "Born in the USA" were involved here. Every name on the Vietnam Memorial must have glowed red.
Literally Russian flags. Even if you say it, "The red white and blue" it's still not in order. Happy Flag Day! 🇺🇸Let us honor the emblem of our nation and the stars and stripes that unite us all. As we display our nations flag and reflect on the values it represents, let’s celebrate the freedom, courage and resilience that makes our country great. pic.twitter.com/nivJsGH5cQ— Department of Defense 🇺🇸 (@DeptofDefense) June 14, 2025
https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/14/us/minnesota-shootings-manhunt-vance-boelter-invs Yep. Not really MAGA by the initial looks of things, more of an Eric Rudolph/Scott Roeder situation. Add in a pinch of homophobia and a dash of video game/gun culture nuttiness, bake until fully cooked. (Rudolph bombed abortion clinics and Roeder assassinated George Tiller.)
I know it’s the cheapest, laziest form of commentary…but imagine Fox and The Blaze and Senator Tuberville if somehow the Biden administration had made a similar error in optics.
You must not watch many, or maybe any, movies about the Vietnam War. It’s like a friggin’ soundtrack requirement. EDIT: its use is just about as lazy as my post above about Imagine If Biden…. I think it was in Forrest Gump and if it wasn’t it should have been.
Yup, also known as: What is, "In every single movie about the US involvement in the Vietnam War" for $300, Alex.
I mean, with the complete collapse of the Enlightenment project of improvement through the spread of knowledge, we have to take our joy where we can get it, right? And in these circumstances it’s hard to define appropriate and inappropriate. So allow me to chuckle at someone saying they’ve never heard of Fortunate Son.
That trying to be reasonable towards Republicans is a fool's errand and they will always turn on you in the end so it's better to stick to your principles. If that's not what he meant, well it's the obvious take-away from that article.
America being bad at parades is a good thing. Armies that look tough aren't and ones that actually are tough don't look it. North Korea spends something like 5 months getting ready for a parade. They literally have a military base just for parade preparation and training. And it shows. They are really good at parades. But if you are training to do a parade, you aren't training to be a soldier. They have government dancers with guns, not soldiers.
Republicans slipping Russian things into patriotic messages happens often enough that I don't think it's an accident.
I didn't know I knew it. I asked my wife and she was like it's CCR she started like I'm in the beginning and like how the first two lines sound even though she didn't know the words and I was like oh yeah I've heard it.
Have you seen some of these police forces? Add in all the safe guards the feds placed on them to prevent corruption and abuse being gone and I'm not sure they'll go out of their way to catch folk like this in certain areas. Texas, Florida, Tennessee and I think a few others have recently tried, or did, pass laws saying "ram away!". We've been seeing cops run people over since the George Floyd protests (and seems a lot of y'all were around for Civil Rights and Kent State). Like the Nazis before, it'll be deemed ok since it was for the good of the State if they were wearing red hats.
My college circles included six or seven Viet Nam vets; they pretty much agreed that there were two songs they heard more than once a day throughout their time there-- "Fortunate Son" and the Animals "We Gotta Get Out of This Place..." The parade appears to have been all obsolete stuff? Shermans, Half-tracks etc? Almost as though the Army was trying to give him what he asked for without actually demonstrating real power. a kind of paper tiger demonstration...
There were 2 bigger No Kings protests in SLC today. 10am at the UofU that about 4000 attended and another at 6pm that started in a downtown park with about 10k in attendance. 1 person was shot at around 8pm. There aren’t many details yet about what happened. My parents were there at the later protest, but I was at the RSL game with my daughter instead. I’ll talk to them tomorrow about how it was. The Red Bull soapbox thing in between got about 50k out. However, these numbers I’m seeing are reported by a conservative source, so it might be more than a bit off. Needless to say, a lot more showed up for entertainment than protest.
So the guy who shot/killed the Minnesota legislators was an evangelical Christian who travelled to the Congo and preached against the LGBT+ community. No surprises there. It is "fun: how are right-wing posters are trying to make him appear as a Democrat, given how they like to blame all Democrats for any violence perpetrated by someone who might be liberal. They ignore how much violence is actually perpetrated by those who are outspokenly anti-LGBT+.
