It's all a show. He had Zelensky who called his bullshit. He had Starmer on speak in the Oval on a deal that was not a deal. He had Ramaphosa who didn't fall into Trump's trap. It's all for show, not substance. And when it comes to those Trump thinks of as unequal, it is an attempt at bullying.
Not much point in foreign students coming to any US place of higher education if the rug can be pulled from under a college like this. Which presumably is the point.
It is really hard to get my head around the fact that as abhorrent as I find these naked power-grabs (e.g. cutting off Harvard's international students), there are MAGAts who get positively aroused by them. Stick it to the man, pwn teh libz, fight for our freedoms, all these are cheers for our country going into freefall. Utterly no common ground, none.
A&O Shearman basically just confirmed their "deal" with Trump is nothing more than his Truth Social post There is no written agreement. As @soccernutter says, it's all one giant show.
Aren't they all just shit holes? That's what someone told me once. For the life me, can't remember who.
China is offering to replace all American companies in South Africa with Chinese companies. Great diplomacy there Trump...wasn't he supposed to "break BRICS"? Not like that you won't Also, that just pissed off the entire continent...not a great start
C'mon - you weren't impressed that Donnie could work the remote to play the VHS of The Blacks' hate rally? He even dimmed the lights with a Clapper.
He hosted Ramaphosa because some told him South Africa has rare earths. Trump confuses Rare Earth with Iron Butterfly.
The move is likely to have a significant effect on the university’s bottom line. Tuition at Harvard is $59,320 for the school year that begins later this year, and costs can rise to nearly $87,000 when room and board are included. International students tend to pay larger shares of education costs compared with other students. So a liddle back of the napkin math based on this and some guesstimating. Dr Wankler can chime in I'm sure 6,800 furriner students. Harvard has a 4 yr graduation rate of 85% I read. So let's say 5,700 pay (or their rich parents) for all four years. If they get some aid maybe it's $70000 a year (not sure how much international students can get) tuition, room & board. 70k x 4 = $280,000. 280,000 x 5,500 = eleventy kajillion! Omg!. Actually $1.54 bn. That's an insane amount too.
Trump declassified the JFK shooting findings. Which is a plus in my book. Now he's killing the penny: the Treasury Department has ordered their last batch of blanks. https://www.npr.org/2025/05/22/nx-s1-5407493/no-more-pennies-one-cent-treasury-stop-minting. Ok, so he's said two things now I agree with.
When you have a GED and spend all day in manual labor, of course you are going to cheer rthe guy who is sticking it to those edumacated elites, amirite?
If you don't mind me inquiring what work do you do now? I remember like Kaz you were looking for work at one point but I've been on here five years apparently so Lord knows when that was
Apparently they don't do their research. Someone on Facebook claimed to have been an intern on Fox & Friends. They were told to book Senator Lindsey Graham and asked someone at the office "if she was available." "Unfortunately, Senator Graham is not available and, BTW, Lindsey is a guy." I actually went to high school with a guy named Shannon. It was a few years after Shannon Hoon died. Way before that, I had frequent run-ins with a guy named Dale. A few years ago, I asked ANOTHER guy named Dale if there was any chance he was the same person...he was not.
So when he's hosting a grifting dinner he's NOT the president. He's just a private citizen. Interesting concept, Propaganda Barbie. REPORTER: On the president's dinner tonight, will the White House commit to making a list of the attendees public so people can see who's paying for that kind of access to the president?LEAVITT: The president is attending it in his personal time pic.twitter.com/kO3kUnMgoK— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) May 22, 2025
Next is the nickle! I've even seen some calling for a killing of the dime as well, but that one is mostly due to convenience as the dime is quite small and easily lost.
The lowest New Zealand denomination is the 10 cent piece. They had a 5 cent piece when I lived there, but that was a long time ago.
Cash in general is falling out of fashion. With the pervasiveness of debit/credit cards and pay by phone, a lot of people don't even carry cash anymore. I stopped carrying cash in the 90s and it annoyed my parents whenever they came over to visit because there would, invariable, be some tourist trap we'd go to that was cash only.
