A work colleague is in Frankfurt at one of the largest international trade shows in our industry (Business Event Travel for groups). Normally, tens millions of dollars in deals are lined up at this show with buyers from around the world. She said every US City booth is empty aside from staff, and has been all week. Never seen anything like it. No clients outside the US will touch the US with a tent foot pole. It's officially considered toxic. Quite incredible really.
Possibly related, I'm seeing a lot more tourism advertising by US cities and states. I'm guessing they are trying to makeup for the drop-off in foreign tourism.
It's horrendous for them. Really bad. Seattle are offering a program of 30 to 40% discounts of hotels, attractions, restaurants, etc...for Canadians. They've seen business drops in the 30 to 40% range. I deal in business/association travel for groups (conferences), so our booking cycles are years long. They are seeing huge drops for years into the future. Any organization with any members outside the US simply cannot afford the risk of selecting any US City.
I assume there are two parts to this: 1 - For the conferences, it is about visas and possible detainment of people traveling to the US. 2 - Tourists and businesses are not willing to travel to the US.
Quite predictable based on the toxic atmosphere TrumpCo has created with our treatment of furriners & immigrants Can't wait to see all the stories this summer of "where are all the Canucks & Quebecois in Cape May & Wildwood this summer?"
You're assumption is spot on. For conferences, it's two fold. One is the entrance to the country risk. Organizations simply can't and won't risk it, for fear of detention at the border. And the second part is they simply don't want to financially support the US right now due entirely to the Trump Administration.
Old Orchard Beach, Maine will be a ghost town (bands won't play no more--too much fighting on the dance floor) this summer. This is a place where you hear more French spoken than English.
Vance needs to borrow some fabric from the circus tent Don is wearing - that button is gonna take out an eye when it shoots off of there.
Ticket sales for the Club World Cup are also not great so far. I would love to see a breakdown if the discrepancy between what FIFA had hoped for and the reality is largely due to foreigners staying away or a lack of interest from locals, or possibly a combination of both?
My family and I go to Wildwood every July. About 1/4 of the hotel we always stay at has Canadians there, typically from Montreal and Quebec. I'm curious to see how many are there this year (or aren't )and how much business our hotel, and Wildwood in general, losses this summer from Canadians not showing up.
Vance enjoying the White House food a little too much? Or is Donny ordering too much McDonald's every day?

I was literally about to pull the trigger on several Seattle games (going down from Canada) when Trump started his anti Canada tirade. It was literally the main reason I backed out. I really wanted to go too as I don't get too see many elite levels games live anymore due to where I live.
