One of my 7th grade Social Studies projects was about how George Wallace had lost one election and made up for it with the famous conservative quote. How a guy who was once considered center left in the state reinvented himself in four years and became an international symbol for injustice along the way.

I also spoke about it at an oratorical contest that same year, and came in behind three guys who ejaculated about America but forgot their speeches at several points.

When White America sneezes Black America catches a cold. Black people aren't politically aware for fun or because we think it makes us more intelligent. We pay attention because that's what's coming next it is important to our survival to watch what White America is doing so we know how to prepare.

They are black homes that don't pay attention to politics not all of us do but for fair portion of us paying attention to what white people are doing helps us know how to play it safe and get home safe.

I get that. It's also the point that @Sounders78 makes repeatedly. It's a survival thing. My hot take is that kids generally lack the maturity to have well informed political views, but that can vary, I'm sure. And I want to be clear; I'm speaking from my own experience here.

Huh? Most white Americans want you to get home safe and make your neighborhood safer.

It'll be interesting to see if Mamdani follows through on his pledge to defund NYPD by the billions.

This conversation made me think about Hollywood and how "life" plays out. I can't remember the movie, but there was the "joke" about how the black folks would always be among the first to die in horror/disaster movies. That was also true for a long time for any drama involving LGBT+ - chances were good we would die before the end of the movie (usually a violent death, although if we got lucky it would just be an impending death). All that typically remained were the white heterosexuals to keep on fighting and "win" the day.

In a way the movies help shape the narrative - blacks and LGBT+ expect to be the first to die, usually as the first sacrificial offerings, while straight whites can sit back and pick more opportune moments to engage in the fight, given their survival chances are much greater.

Might be a bit of a simplification or exaggeration, but the theme of it doesn't seem far off to me.

yes, there is a subtle undercurrent of racism in play here.

  7. The Earth rotates faster than normal: Tuesday will be one of the shortest days ever measured
The Earth is currently rotating around its axis a little faster than usual. For that reason, according to scientists, Tuesday, August 5 will be one of the shortest days ever: 1.25 milliseconds shorter than the usual 24 hours. So instead of 86,400 seconds, the Earth will take 86,399.9875 seconds to rotate around its axis
    .

There you have it. Trvmp makes the world spin out of control, won't be long before we all fly off the earth.

You believe that or do you want to believe it? Urban areas generally have higher crime rates, and almost none of it has to do with race. I'd link it more to income level honestly. You see it in trashy redneck areas too.

The "Great White Boogeyman" will be played up until the end of time until minorities finally tune it out and it no longer becomes effective.

I was referring to the notion that Black folks have to keep an eye on what White folks are doing, so they can make it home safely. If you flip that on its head, it would be considered racist, all day.

Ah gotcha. The former has gotten too prevalent and tiresome. I think people will tune it out after awhile.

You clearly have zero idea what life is like for us. I would strongly encourage you to listen more to what we say about how our lives are impacted by the majority and stop telling us how you think we should think and behave.

I think you should stop pontificating like everyone that hasn't walked a mile in your shoes is a complete cluefvck.

I've been an ally for as long as I can remember, maybe you should remember who your friends are. We've come a long way, together. Frankly there was a great big push to move faster (yes, coming from your community) and that's part of how we ended up with Trump, again. Think of it as a backlash to wokeism. Even Obama said that there was a time when he (like many of us) wasn't fully onboard with gay marriage. Then, like many of us, he shifted forward and fully embraced it, which in hindsight seemed like the obvious choice. But the push for people to accept a whole new set of gender norms, for instance, has caused confusion and political backlash...so maybe, just maybe, it's you who should be listening and not putting your friends on blast.

Do not dare ask to be treated as human in a shorter time frame than we find comfortable, or we'll get scurred and retreat to Trump..."

Apparently, it was you who didn't get the memo. We're heading back to the Dark Ages. Been that way since 2016. All the progress being slowly undone. Democrats are in complete disarray.

 Some might say we're doomed.

The memo is tattooed on my forehead. I'm not the one who put it there.

    No shit.

To some "allies" in the squishy Center, Dems have to act more like battered spouses. "If we stopped talking about teh Gays all the time and defending POCs right to vote and abortion rights, more ICs would've liked us and not voted for the insane rapist guy. We promise to do better next time!"

People weren't ready for a lot of that woke shit and frankly there were those on the left trying to shove it down everyone's throat. I absolutely think we saw a backlash. Then there's the burn it all down, capitalism is the root of all evil, flirting with socialism lefties, and all our single issue people like Arabs in America...we're going to need Trump to fvck up really bad. Might be our only hope.

Yeah, electing a competent person of color, who then did an impeccable job for four years, really woke up the racists.

    That what you meant?
