That's the only encouraging thing I've seen. His numbers have dropped like 1500%, just like drug prices.

I was just talking a little with my mom about this at our weekly dinner. The family is generally left, some much further than others. But we do have a spattering of righties, and at least one evangelical Christian. This evangelical is bad enough that his own daughter (my cousin), who is gay, won't talk to him. His wife, one of mom's sisters, is center maybe leans right, but said she cannot stand Trump and didn't vote for him (and did for Harris). I bring this up as I was telling my mom that I would not know the evangelical was MAGA as politics didn't come up with him. I suspected he was conservative, mostly because he worked in the defense industry post military career, but I have never heard him speak about politics or social issues. Since he worked on, then built missiles, he is quite the handy man. And quite knowledgeable about electricity and wiring and related and is otherwise a decent guy.

Yeah, we won't talk politics over the next couple of days. It was really only my FiL who was the big political guy back in the 80's and 90's (he was a Limbaugh/Buchanan/Buckley guy). My BiL and I used to be close but he became a big born-again Obama basher and so we haven't talked for years, with the exception of being nice over holiday meals. My SiL, completely over the top self-proclaimed Trump girl who seems to care more about abortion than any other issue...so yeah, I have to roll with it. And be nice. For my wife. I don't mind doing it for her, but it will test my patience.

I have. They have cycled through "you're over-reacting" and "we're still Trump supporters".

Or the counterargument is that, "well we were still friends when Biden/Obama was President". As they wished Biden would croak during his presidency or they would easily call Obama the N***er President.

    Let me guess:

Various things the Dems predicted aren't happening because your relatives aren't directly experiencing those things.

We do, my Sil’s daughter (who’s a medical doc in Southern CA) married a Black man and they have three kids. And my BiL met his wife in the Philippines, after his divorce, and they have a daughter.

How are the kids with their parents? I'm assuming they don't align politically.

    https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-israel-companies-partners-dhs-funding-2108673

The Trump administration will deny federal disaster‑preparedness aid to U.S. states and cities that boycott Israeli companies, linking routine funding to its political position.

In grant notices posted Friday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said applicants must comply with its "terms and conditions," which include certifying they will not cut off "commercial relations specifically with Israeli companies" to remain eligible for assistance.

No, not authoritarian. Not at all.

SiL’s daughter is more right leaning but she’s very low key about it, but they’re church people, more conservative, etc., she’s great though, I’ve always admired her, knew she wanted to be a doc at age 12-13. Just bought a house and ranch for her horses between LA and San Diego, a little inland from the coast, I’m very proud of her. BiL and his wife, their daughter is just hitting teen years, who knows how that will work out but she’s too young to care much about politics.

There's no such thing as "teen years/too young to care about politics." I knew by age 9 that I had to start paying attention and caring because I'd be dealing with other people's mistakes my whole life; anybody who doesn't figure that out by their teens is putting their head in the sand while wearing a "kick me hard sign."

My wife is similar, really doesn't follow politics at all. Just wants to go to work, go to church, text with her sisters about mom stuff, and try to find time for an occasional date night.

I'll tune into Faux News for a laugh as they're constantly propping him up to make him look good. They rarely talk about tariffs or the crappy job market and never talk about the skyrocketing grocery prices and people's rent.

Wife's sister? That could have been avoided by vetting the whole family. Next life, you'll know better.

Bro's wife? That's a no-brainer- it eats in the garage with the dogs, and they are kept safe from it by a fence

Tell ya what- being Black (and not just having melanin), at least I don't have to dine with pedophiles and other predators. I feel your pain.

It may be lol to you, but to a Black kid, it's pretty much a method of survival. Putting "Well-formed" out there doesn't work with me. Every step towards survival is political.

Not doing so could end you up like Emmitt Till.
I thought you were in your 60s. You have a... youthful... approach to knowledge of oppressed minorities ways of getting thru the day alive. :ROFLMAO:

That is the advantage indeed.....I do not know anyone in my immediate family and friends circles who is maga....Having said that, I would cut them off w/out any mixed feelings if there were.

    No, you don't.

I'm sorry, but as one of the people they target I don't buy this. You don't have to "roll with it", a behaviour that only serves to legitimize their viewpoint. The lives of minorities could be in danger because of people who just "roll with it". I'm sorry, but it's attitudes like this that really piss me off given my life has been irrevocably changed because of these people.

Oh, hell, no. at this point, we would probably treat him like Moonshine (King of the Monkeys- Soldier's Story) if s/he were family. I choose my friends, so, that's a given.

Gee, be friends with people who want me to have my rights stripped completely away and potentially be executed because I exist, or let them know their views are unacceptable. Tough choice that.

We all have decisions to make, I think it makes more sense to stay in the US and stand up (with the rest of the LGBTQ community in this country) for gay rights.
