A lot of people think so. I'm expecting it, but I also don't think it will end up being as bad as many expect. It's not like there haven't been months to prepare. btw, a better term is "undocumented." "Illegals" gives the impression, however subtly, that it is an illegal person rather than a person being in the country illegally. As in "look at those illegals."
Cruel Trump Deportation Plan Will Hurt Farmers, Food Workers, and All of Us ... In addition to being morally repugnant (and impossibly expensive), these plans would be extraordinarily damaging to a food system that relies heavily on immigrant workers, destabilizing local economies and driving up food prices for all of us.
Lucky for you bananas don't grow in the USA...do they? I think in preparation for a shortage of orange juice I'm going to hoard about 100 of 1.5 liter packs.
Interesting to note in that chart about farmworkers' immigration status: in no year since 1994 has the share of US-born citizens exceeded the share of undocumented immigrants. I also find interesting that very small (but growing) band of foreign-born citizens over time. I wonder what accounts for the increasing share of the farm workforce, and how that share compares with the number of overall naturalized citizens. e2a: the article below gets at my question, a little bit. There's a cool graphic included that lets you hover over immigration categories to see relative shares across different sectors of the food economy and total US workforce. Undocumented immigrants account for a significant portion of all US workers in the food and agriculture industries Undocumented immigrants make up only 5% of the total labor force, according to the most recent federal data from the U.S. Census Bureau and analysis from the Pew Research Center. However, the share of undocumented workers across the nation’s food supply chain is at least 16%.
Well, funny you should mention bananas...they have been one among many examples of products that are 100% unable to be re-homed by tariffs. Leaving aside that the entire theory is bonkers.
Oh, could you imagine the right-wing outrage if Barack Obama or Joe Biden did similar? To put up a small sign is one thing. What states don't have signs or photos of their governors at state borders and/or airports? This mess? Of course it's "bigger and more beautiful than anything before" or whatever over-the-top language is preferred. This is definitely something out of China, Russia or Iraq indeed. Just wait until the bigly parade with ALL the military equipment being displayed.
Apart from what is consumed of it domesically, what of the agricultural stuff is being exported? Orange juice? Pine apples? If supply drops because of shortages in hands plucking stuff, not only economical damage comes from turnover/revenues missed, but also shops will suffer because of income vanished for the undocumented, and thus spending power towards local shops.
I just read about the route...it's going from the Pentagon, over the Arlington Memorial Bridge to the National Mall. I imagine there will many new kayaking obstacles in the Potomac after this is done.
Don't know about the export piece, but yes absolutely the undocumented immigrants and migrants make the same rational economic decisions as the rest of us.
Someone should photoshop an image of Vlad having a huge banner at the WC 2018 stadium....just to trigger him to want one too in the WC2026 He would take the bate like a piranha a piece of meat
Imagine having so many problems to fix, many self imposed, others inherited, but your Felon spends time "owning the opposition" instead of fixing anything and being happy about that? I can't. It's just a...pathetic way to view government, society, and the world. Such reckless hate.
Maybe he is just the result of AI responses being injected into the thread by a troll. I'm not saying it is the case, just that it's a possibility.
The parade for his birthday...I mean, 250th anniversary for the Army. Just normal stuff a normal President does.
We do have a deeply rooted history of castrating undesirables in this country. Denying voting to non-landed whites, non-whites, and women. That is the measure the Supreme Priests have for anything fascist so....normal stuff for our Court to do.
"Hahahahahaha I won the 2008 election suck it John McLoser!" --Barack Obama oh wait he didn't actually say that.
Remember Ed Martin? Yes, the guy who was the attorney from Missouri involved in that mess a few years back. The guy whom Trump appointed to be the US Attorney in Washington, D.C. There's more (see link in post 65 of this same thread). https://www.lawfaremedia.org/article/d.c.-bar-disciplinary-panel-declines-to-investigate-ed-martin Fox penned the letter in response to a complaint filed by Jennifer Jensen, an insurance agent who resides in Utah. Jensen’s complaint alleged that Martin violated conflict of interest rules when he signed off on a motion to dismiss the case against Joseph Padilla, a convicted Capitol riot defendant whom President Donald Trump had pardoned. Martin, who had previously worked as defense counsel on Padilla’s case, was still listed as one of Padilla’s attorneys when he filed the motion to dismiss on behalf of the Justice Department. Prosecuting attorney and defense attorney, at the same time, for the same...defendant? Accused? Person? That's a nice trick, to get paid from both tables.
