i like the post and the points made but- to take this off topic a bit- the problem lies is saying sarge is the usmnt starting 9. you cant be both at the very beginning of your development and a lock starter leading an attack.

by the logic of this post that isnt something that should be on his plate right now- hence many (myself included) believing he shouldnt be our 9 right now. let him get further along in his development- which is clearly on a pretty promising track.

If the beginning of your development is Bundesliga level, and the competition is mostly MLS level, I don't get why you can't be both. He's not competing for the NT against mid career Bundesliga professionals.

club level doesnt translate to intl, which you know. the bund doesnt help him score for the us, nor does mls help zardes score for the us...but zardes does. and save any im a zardes fanboy crap- youre just a eurosnob, and sarge is a kid who isnt "there" yet.

When does Zardes score for the US?

If club level didn't translate to international level, then the best teams in the world wouldn't have every single player playing in a top 5 league.

The Qutar goal was setup by a Euro, 2nd division U23 kid. Without that, Zardes doesn't score or get anywhere close to scoring against Qatar.

Look, there is so many variables to get an actual gauge of a player's ability.
Call them all in 3 weeks and have them decide in training camp.

Fun fact...only Landon Donovan reached double figures in goals and assists in fewer caps than Zardes.

If soccer were a scored sport like gymnastics or diving, obviously we'd all take Sargent, and many other strikers, over Zardes. But it's not, and you have to respect Zardes' production. We all see the flaws in his game. Guess what? His production forces himself into the mix.

Any analysis of scoring for county that doesn’t, like diving, include degree of difficult, is extra-flawed. And, we have not had a lot of pure forwards who scored a lot for club and country that were not primarily in mls, fwiw. Don’t know why that is, but it is.

Pretty money is a big part of the solution. They were relelgated in a covid year, which was already a bad year for cash flow. According the DFL annual report, the average 2Bl side lost about $5m to $6m in 20/21, and Werder's grouping lost an average of a million. these are not overwhelming losses, but $12m for Josh would put them back on safe financial ground.

i guess at the end of the day saying $12 million when no one wants to pay $12 million doesnt do anything for your precarious finances

Bremens finances have been a mess for a decade or so at least now. I’m sure Covid didn’t help. Though I’m not fully familiar with the financial situation and a local/more intense fan may be able to speak more to that.

True, but don't ask, don't get. I imagine they are probably willing to come down from that number, but you have to start somewhere.

Not sure how far though. Bremen has spent a single season in the BL2 before 2021... staying down another season is going to cost them too. Right now keeping Josh might be the best thing for them WRT getting back to the top tier. I dunno... maybe they are thinking of a longer term rebuild? If that is the case... then for sure you want to get a decent chunk for Sargent.

    Any update on Sargent's transfer?

If they are bailing on Eggestein, Sargent will be gone soon, too.

When does the BL transfer window close?

Gotta be Leverkuesen after the Bailey sale, with an outside shot at a bottom half EPL team.
