Defense apparently matters, which seems obvious, but I thought the same thing when I looked at it.

I would have thought a defensive, counterattacking team would generate very high quality chances but few of them. That may be true, but the fact that it's essentially linear somewhat implies that teams don't generate large difference in shots/chances, given the axes.

The teams with a high xnpG/shot also have high xnpG/90.

He's doing his job, that's why the coach keeps starting him and playing him 90.

On the other hand, when you're in a bad team and your job description is "Striker," not scoring, no matter how well you fit into the other roles your coach wants for you, means you're stuck there.

Yes, he looks good to me. Watching him play full matches is the only way to assess his performance this season, given the situation he is in.

only watched the first half before hoppeing over to schalke, but Josh was by far their best player in the half. Which is saying very very little.
He could really really use a Harit of his own. Or really anyone with modest, professional technical ability.

Fun Fact: Matthew Hoppe now has 12.7 times higher goals per minute ratio than Josh Sargent for the 20/21 Bundesliga . And playing for an even weaker team!

If I’m Sargent, I’m begging Bremen to sign Lletget and Morris. Hell, they would benefit from Caden Clark, Cole Bassett, and Gianluca Busio, and Jesus Ferreira.

He made a really good play that should have led to an assist. Did anyone else see that play or find it in the highlights?

I'm pretty sure Satan was busy completing a deal with Matthew Hoppe's family.

Ever wonder if we're actually in hell, forced to watch this version of Werder Bremen on a weekly basis? It's not flaming darts to the eyes, but...

Is that the one where he won the ball, get bodied up a bit and while falling to the turf hit a nearly perfect through ball? That was a sweet little play. I can't remember if his teammate had a mistouch or was flagged for offside but it was sweet pass from Sargent regardless. The commentators really liked it.

Yup they did! His teammate just didn’t hit that great of a shot from what I can remember.

Good teamwork yesterday and a deserved point at Leverkusen. Sargent worked hard against the ball and supported the counter-pressing well (as usual).
So far, the season is going as good as we can expect but a win vs Augsburg would be a huge boost. I expect a more offensive philosophy next week with Rashica possibly back in the mix (and Chong hopefully on the bench).

For the record, I am far from giving up on Sarge. I’ve got a good feeling about the Rückrunde. He is soooooo due!

Hm, I googled them and it doesn’t seem like any of them are Bundesliga-level type players or talented enough to prefer them over homegrown players.
Plus, they would have to be without transfer fee if we wanted to buy them before fans are allowed back in the stadium.

none of those players are BL level?

that’s a take, I suppose. You should send that post to yourself about 2 years in the future.
