Scenes from yesterday‘s training with some Sargent goals: First test match of the preseason is on Sunday (1pm) against Braunschweig. You can watch it live on Werder‘s YouTube channel.

Not directly but played okay. Drew lots of fouls. That‘s a result of him being able to protect his possession well but he should sometimes just pass the ball faster. Some game highlights here: New young players on the team (Agu, Rieckmann, Schmid, Mbom) were impressive.
That quote Berhalter also lamented Bremen's difficulty in creating chances for Sargent, who scored four goals in 34 league and cup appearances."They need to find a way to be able to create chances in an efficient way," he said of Bremen. "Right now they've been really poor in that, and that's been affecting Josh. They don't play to get the forward goal-scoring opportunities, and it's tough man. I'm watching the games and he doesn't get many opportunities. I mean on the upside Josh has gotten much better at things he needed to work on, pressing and hold up play but downside is he’s declined in things he was good at, attacking service by hitting the ball hard and on target and his off the ball movement with runs in the box.
Is it just me or does it look like Josh has been hitting the weights. Looks like is filling his frame out.
Looks the same to me. He never really struck me as being that skinny. Though I'd be happy to be incorrect, as he could certainly use the bulk the way Werder play (ie. all he does is fight CBs to hold up play).
Not confirmed but likely €1.5M/year since his contract extension last year. However, players of most clubs have agreed to temporary salary cuts due to Covid but it's unclear how much exactly.
ManU player, Tahith Chong, set to join Werder on loan. He's a winger with a handful of first team appearances and great hair. Chong in top 20 - The most valuable Dutch forwards
This feels like a good time to remind everyone that Sargent is three months younger than Chong, with you know, 35 more first team appearances than the guy. In ANY sport when evaluating prospects you gotta look at age compared to the rest of the league. I fully expect Josh to make a huge step forward next year.
I follow prospects pretty intensely across multiple sports. One of the biggest indicators is age relative to level. Soccer can be a bit more difficult to follow than let's say Baseball because of how a lack of standardized development (I.E. in baseball we've got years of data of how performance in say the Eastern League (AA) is more of a pitcher's dominant league because of weather/ballparks than say the Texas League (also AA) which is hitter's dominant). However, the big jump I find almost uniformly is from 20-22. Sure you have some late bloomers and some guys that never pan out and I'm not saying Josh is going to be a global superstar, but we will learn a lot more about his prospects in the next two years than we did in the past two years.
Is Werder's plan to just refuse to play friendlies, and hope they all forget how bad of a team they are until the new season starts? Have high hopes for Sargent this year, but I think they've played one match. Meanwhile Reyna is banging in goals left and right! Come on man! (this is mostly kidding, i realize Reyna has played like 2 games)
Who the hell looks for BSers on other social media platforms? Big yikes. I for one, have a pseudonym on Reddit...
