Well, he has been now. As for how it hasn't happened sooner, sporting directors hire managers/head coaches and Manning wasn't the incumbent's first head coach hire. To adapt a phrase, firing one coach is a misfortune but to fire two looks like carelessness and careless sporting directors don't last very long.
The Will Still jokes from the Damion Downs thread might be able to make their way over here 1988567305752617174 is not a valid tweet id
Isn't the the real question whether Norwich will, ahem, "Still" be in the Championship come June. I'll show myself out
Will Sargent Still be with Norwich after this season or better yet will he Still be with them after the January window?
Will Still's agent is will still be tyring to find Will Still a job because Norwich's sporting director still hasn't got a clue and still hires bad coaches. The latest numpty to be installed on the bench is ex-Rangers and Monaco gaffer Philippe Clement. The guy won 2 Belgian titles with Brugge but who didn't back then? Since leaving, he's been sacked twice with rumours that he only lasted as long as he did at Rangers because they couldn't afford to sack him.
Amazing to think how far he (and the side) have slipped since early August. He was just coming into a new season, with several sides wanting to sign him. He stayed, and was banging in goals for fun and the team was winning. Then, everything wend south. No more goals and few wins. Now I'm not sure what team would want to sign him.
"Form is temporary. Class is permanent." He hasn't suddenly become a bad player. Norwich City have. Plenty of clubs will be interested in signing him. The interest may be at a lower price than in August, which is not a problem for Sarge, or for not as good a club, which is, but there will be interest and serious interest. My bet is on a loan-with-an-option to a promotion chaser or a Prem relegation struggler whose GF is a good bit lower than their XG. If it's the latter, my money's on Leeds FWIW
Did that baby come? If so..... easy explanation as to why Sargent's production has tapered off. Even if he has access to a nanny, he still has plenty of responsibilities and attention focused towards mom and child.
My original post was not a direct criticism of him, it was just pointing out how quickly things can change, especially in the Championship. I'm not blaming him nor am I saying he's suddenly a bad player, but he went from serious consideration to making the USMNT team for the WC to now an afterthought. Also, even with the team sliding, had he been able to even score at half the rate, there would be pretty serious interest in him this January. Not so sure many sides would want to sign him now, unless for a significant discount to what Norwich could have gotten for him 6 months ago. Personally, I hope it's related to his life changes and he can figure it out and get back to scoring goals, either at Norwich or somewhere else.
"Did that baby come? If so..... easy explanation as to why Sargent's production has tapered off." Yet the birth of his first corresponded with the original change in form at Norwich.
And a nice diving header at that! Too bad Norwich sucks so bad (a theme for years for Sarge, going back to the unwatchable Bremen days). Norwich couldn't hold on and lost 3-2.
That's got to be the new guy's first port of call. The impact Dyche reverting to a "safety first" approach has had on Forest is proof enough of how important a strong defence is. And if the team is reasonably secure at the back, the front pair are going to see a little more service
