Raul is almost 35 - nearly 10 years older. I think Josh is already better. He and Muniz pushing each other would be great. Would be good for the club. And Josh would need to step up another level. That would be good for Josh.

Raul is seeing out the final year of his contract and from what can be surmised is hoping for a couple of big money years in Liga MX or MLS after a decent World Cup performance.
Josh is not going anywhere this window.

Why is it weird? Does every story have to be about Pulisic?

He has 6 goals in 5 games. That’s pretty impressive.

The reason *I* think it’s weird the Associated Press focused an article on Sargent is because in the run up to the WC:
    1) you’d think Captain America Pulisic would be The One Yank non-American fans would have heard of;
    2) making Sargent who might not even make the final WC roster the target of their article is weird

I wanna be clear: I am a Sargent fan and hope beyond hope he does make the WC roster.

They focused the article on him because Sargent was the player that US Soccer made available to the press for their "media availability" event yesterday. (Along with Tim Ream, who is less interesting at this point.) A number of other outlets with reporters who attended that press conference ended up publishing a piece about him too.

Likely a conscious decision by Poch and the USSF after Sarge and so many other Euros weren't called up in the summer:

At least he is back in his happy place at Norwich City. Like Tillman and Cardoso, I think Sargent is way more than what is shown with the USMNT as we see in the Championship. Get back to scoring in the yellow and green and be ready if called in the future.

We're all delighted that we've been able to keep hold of him, and he has already shown this season how important and valuable he is to us.

“He's a really high-level striker. We've seen that in what he has produced so far, so it's now about him maintaining those levels and standards.

We're really enjoying working with him and looking forward to seeing what he can continue to bring to the group.”

Sargent said, “I’m really happy and proud to receive this award. For sure, there has been a lot of noise during the recent months, but I’ve been fully focused on doing everything I can to help the team here.

“I’d like to thank everyone at the club, but especially my teammates, for their support.
“We’re excited for the season ahead, and we must now continue to build on some of our recent performances.”

Mayb this is his level (although he seems to be playing above it). Not sure he's going to get much better playing in the Championship. He's never going to be top of the table good, but I think he could be mid-table Prem, upper mid Bund, etc. good. Would like to see him chase after that.

Agreed. Nothing wrong with being a quality, consistent scorer in the Championship. It's clearly harder to score goals in the EPL but could be argued it's harder to be a consistent scorer in the Championship with its grueling 46-match season and physicality. I have a lot of admiration for guys like Billy Sharp, Troy Denney, Jordan Rhodes, and Ross McCormack who've all bagged 100+ goals in the Championship. All of them had time in the EPL but never really reached the same heights. Maybe because they played for promoted sides and couldn't get the same service. Maybe it's because they weren't talented enough to stick long-term. Denney was the one who had the most success in the EPL bagging double digits 4 out of 5 seasons but even still he was only about to replicate around 50% of his goal output form the Championship. Sargent is closer to Deeney in terms of talent and style of play. I think he could easily play for mid-to-lower tier EPL side and have Deeney-like success but his greater success is going to be in the Championship. Again, nothing wrong with that, IMO.

From what I’ve heard and read, it was a family decision not to make the move to Wolfsburg. To add to that, I just have this feeling that it was Mrs. Sargent who really opposed the move due to being pregnant. Will be interesting to see if Sargent moves in the January window when presumably, Mrs. Sargent already has given birth.

He's beyond this level. It's just that, with his wife ready to give birth, he prioritized family ovdr career. That the options were Bremen (mid table BL1, at best) or Burnley (relegation bait) would have made that an easy enough decision. Norwich is a beautiful city in a beautiful part of the world that his wife is very familiar with. Bremen and especially Burnley aren't.

Joining Burnley, only to get relegated and join another newly-promoted side in 12 months is not likely to be what Josh has in mind for career development. Neither is mid-table in BL1. He turns 26 in February. His next move is likely to be his biggest. Career reasons said "don't rush it". So did family. It was a no-brainer.

That said, if Norwich don't go up this season, he will move in the summer: he'll want to take the best option available then and Norwich will want to cash in on him. Meanwhile, a fit Sarge is likely to break 20 goals this season. He'll have the same kind of options next summer too but probably better

Just one correction: it was Wolfsburg, not Werder Bremen that made the offer to get Sargent this past summer. But I’d like to see him join BMG so Sargent, Gio and Scally can be The Three Amigos. :D

And, Bremen is a nice city, on par with Norwich. Not sure about Wolfsburg
