I could only have the game in the background and would come over to watch anytime I heard the name Sargent. Jesus, that open goal was so bad. Could you imagine if the defender doesn't clear it out of instict and instead just follows the ball and it stops a yard before the goal line lol..
Josh Sargent wasted two great chances as Norwich's search for a first Premier League win of the season continued with a 0-0 draw at home to Brighton 👀— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) October 16, 2021
Just saw some highlights and the highlights didn't cover the 2nd chance. Norwich vs Brighton Highlights (highlightsfootball.net) First- the miss was really poor. Indeed looks like lack of confidence. But I have not seen one person comment positively on how Josh created that chance on his own. It was a 'hope and pray' ball that was played into the space behind the backline. Many posters here comment Josh has no speed, but this play would argue against that. He created that chance by hustling and outrunning the defenders to the spot where the ball was played. The defenders had several yards on him. Josh gave it his all and made up most of the distance and forced the goalie into a bad decision to try to play the ball. I'm not excusing the terrible miss, but he did create that chance (basically) himself. Of course, the headlines will focus on the miss. Also, he had a really nifty, difficult-to-execute skillful turn in the 13th minute, turning nothing into a good opportunity from outside-the-box. See for yourself. You can also see a chance in the 63 minute that Pukki should have done better too. The 'chip the keeper' was on, but poorly executed by Pukki.
Pukki has a lot more credit in the bank than Sargent. I really like Sargent and want him to succeed but unless he gets a couple goals to boost his confidence he’s gonna be Jozy @ Sunderland II
Agree, this was the kind of game where sinking that ball makes you home-town hero and brilliant purchase, and earns you a halo that lasts a while... Really unfortunate from a reputational standpoint.
I feel bad for Josh but he needs to complete some of these gifts. Having said that watching Werner miss chance after chance .... he makes me shake my head even more.
And you post a clip that I already posted access to? I commented on what I saw, no different from you. Sorry, don't root for the guy to fail like you. It was bad miss, we all agree. A number of young American players have challenges this season and really difficult to tell which will rise above and which won't. You can throw Pulisic, McKennie, Sargent, Hoppe and a couple others into the group that have their work cut out for them to get on the field and show their best performances from here. We all loved KdLF's start and he's been mostly a sub since, etc.
Norwich City 0-0 Brighton: Daniel Farke reaction | Eastern Daily Press (edp24.co.uk) This guy's opinion is the only one that matters.... “To be honest he is probably the most disappointed guy in the whole dressing room because he knows he should score,” said Farke. “Then Brighton have to open up more so it was a key moment. So we have to accept the draw. “I have to say he had an outstanding performance. His workload against the ball was good, he was able to keep the ball against a really, physical back three for Brighton. He was able to initiate a lot of good situations for us. "He brought himself into really good positions alongside Teemu. But he knows better than anyone else he should score that scene in the first half. An empty goal and he underestimated the situation. He had a chance to take another touch to put the ball easily into the empty net. “He also had a one-against-one in the second half with the keeper from Teemu’s touch and perhaps he was not concentrated on a tidy first touch. He should have scored them. Teemu had good situations. “On this level scenes we should score one or two goals, and the best scene of those is from Josh.”
My point was Pulisic has been key to Chelsea's success. When Puli went there many thought Chelsea would not be successful at all. Not sure what his injuries have to do with that point. Not sure how the EPL was any harder on Pulisic's body than the Bundesliga as he sat out injured a lot at Dortmund also. Hell, his last injury (what, out 6 weeks so far give or take?) was with the Nats. Bully for you to predict Pulisic's injuries, I guess. My point was few people, if any (including myself), saw what was coming at Chelsea after Pulisic's arrival. Anyway, I do generally enjoy your posts and retweets (I'm not on twitter). But we obviously don't agree on Sarge's potential.
More power to you bud I understand that my pov goes against the grain, but the reason why I am so adament is because I have 20-25 years of painful XP with what happens to cfs in europe I am all for healthy disagreements and enjoy learning new and different things here on the Ya BS family.
Maybe Josh's miss is some sort of karma thing from Cherundolo almost 20 years ago...one of the greatest defensive plays ever from a Yank Abroad (and the guy shooting was raising his hand, celebrating the goal already (unlike Josh): Cherundolo clearance - YouTube Simply remarkable play. Stevie wasn't even in the frame when the shot started and the shooter was much closer to goal. The shooter was a 'Reina' and once played for Dortmund as well (weird, eh?)- Giuseppe Reina who was playing for Hertha at the time and wound up scoring more than 50 goals in the Bundesliga.
