Dominic Shimmin lasted only a couple weeks at Bournemouth... http://www.thisisdorset.net/display.var.1896377.0..php Hmmm
Defender John Curtis has had his contract terminated with immediate effect. He made 3 starts and 1 sub appearance for the R's in the Championship, plus one sub appearance in the Carling Cup. He hasn't played since being a halftime sub in our 1-5 loss at West Brom on September 30th in John Gregory's last game in charge.
Our attempts to sign defender Martin Taylor from Birmingham have taken an interesting turn, with Norwich boss Glenn Roeder chiming in (they have Taylor on loan and desperately want to sign him in Jan.)... http://www.canaries.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetails/0,,10355~1189875,00.html Guessing Roeder is none too pleased about a good player going to a fellow relegation contender. Let the new QPR cash backlash begin!
It's nice to have more cash than someone in this division. While that was often the case when we were a level below, we've spent that last few years picking up people on free transfers in addition to getting a few true bargains (Camp, Blackstock). Hopefully the next two transfer windows will be well-used by the new regime -- the first to keep us up, the second to push on toward the playoffs... or at least mid-table!
The Martin Taylor saga continues... http://icbirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk...objectid=20254702&siteid=50002-name_page.html http://new.edp24.co.uk/content/spor...ory=Sport&itemid=NOED16 Dec 2007 22:13:33:747 More from Karren Brady... Interesting little tussle going on between the clubs. Taylor for 1.25 mil in January - looks likely. Don't really like the aspect of him preferring a move to Norwich though.
Franco Ceravolo has resigned his position as Chief Scout at QPR with immediate effect. He says the "move to London wasn't ideal from a family persective" so he's stepping down. No idea if it's as simple as that or there is any relationship to the story above, but there you have it.
I expect wackiness like this to continue throughout the Briatore/Paladini/De Canio era. Question is... how much will it matter? Time will tell.
In addition to Martin Taylor, it looks like the R's are targeting young Arsenal defender Matt Connoly in the January window... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article430994.ece We'll have to wait and see if it's going to be a loan or permanent.
The Sheffield Wednesday official site has announced that they've turned down QPR bids for left back Tommy Spurr and winger Jermaine Johnson. Odd that they've decided to announce that, but there you go.
Not much. And I've read unofficial reports that he went back to Chelsea when Scott Sinclair did, although Sahar's loan hasn't yet expired (Sinclair's has). Sahar wasn't on the bench for our win on Saturday.
The Watford Observer reports that Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd says right back Lloyd Doyley is not for sale, despite a report linking him to a £500,000 move to Loftus Road. Doyley has been an everpresent for Watford this season. The report, however, says that Gavin Mahon is "likely to be making the short trip from Watford to west London." About Mahon, the manager said "That will all sort itself out. I've said he can leave, he's been a good servant and if he moves on then he goes with our best wishes." Midfielder Mahon turns 31 in January, has been with Watford since 2002, and has made over 200 appearances for the Hornets in all competitions. He has made 19 starts for Watford this season, although none since December 1st, the last of a three-game losing streak in a week for Watford (including losses to Burnley and Bristol City at home).
Bob Malcolm has been charged with drunk driving and will be suspended by Derby when he returns following his loan (I believe he's eligible to play for the Rs on New Years Day). http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/d...me=yes&more_nodeId1=124522&contentPK=19384602 Not sure if this means anything for his chances of playing the next two matches. We'll have to wait and see. I think that De Canio has no choice but to play him.
I guess we could go with Walton and Stewart in central defense -- and Kanyuka made the bench for the last game, so should be available... at least for cover.
Perhaps, but I think we'll probably use him for two matches and get shot of him forever. Don't like his chances of getting in the Derby team again, but that's not our problem in the New Year. We should have a better defender come in early next month to replace him. Is Stewart going to be available for Chelsea?
Big news just in! http://www.qpr.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1200745,00.html Also... "Lee is capable of playing in midfield or at full-back."
The loan begins on January 2nd, so he'll be available for the FA Cup match against Chelsea on the 5th. So, do we have our a new starting right back for the rest of the year (that's where they said he made his ManU debut against Chelsea at the end of last season)?
Hopefully there won't be a need in the midfield -- we should get in a left midfielder (even if just Ephraim) and Rowlands can start on the right with Ainsworth pushing him for time or as a frequently-used sub.
The first of the January buys has arrived. Watford midfielder Gavin Mahon has joined QPR on an emergency loan basis with a view to a permanent deal. I guess this gets him into the squad for the New Year's Day game, rather than having to wait until Chelsea. Mahon was Watford's player of the year in 03/04 and was their captain when they earned promotion in '06. He made 33 Premier League starts, the most of any Watford player, (and 1 sub appearance) plus 4 cup starts for Watford in 06/07. Before playing in over 200 games for Watford, Mahon played in 165 games in all competitions for Brentford. He started his professional career at Hereford after moving on from the youth setup at Wolves (where he made no first-team appearances).
Good stuff. This is the kind of move that seems to be part of the investors "survival" and "consolidation" plan. Mahon is a solid player at this level and will provide some strength in midfield.
