    With our season over and the signings for 06/07 beginning, I thought it was time for a new thread... the fourth annual edition of the QPR Transfer News/Rumours thread. Here we go!

    Jamaican international Damion Stewart has signed a three-year deal with the club contingent on his receiving an extension of his work permit. The 25-year-old 6'2" defender has over 30 caps for Jamaica and spent last season on loan at Bradford City from Harbour View FC in Jamaica.

    Armel Tchakounte has signed a one-year deal with the club with an option for a second. Tchakounte is a 27-year-old defensive midfielder from Cameroon who has played in leagues in Africa and Asia. He trained with the club during the last three weeks of the season, so Waddock has seen him. Waddock says "Armel shone in training and will be a huge addition to this football club. He's a big, strong, powerful lad with great energy and will be a key player for us next season." Although it wasn't mentioned in the QPR release, it appears a "Tchakounte Armel" played for Carshalton Athletic in the Conference South last year. He's also from Cameroon and also once played for Kitchee FC in Hong Kong, so it must be the same guy. The Conference South Transfers website says he was unattached and joined Carshalton in January of this year. Hopefully he's good and just decided to play some football while looking for a club a bit higher up the food chain. Other references I saw online also had his name as Tchakounte Armal, rather than the other way around.

    20-year-old keeper Jake Cole signed an improved contract that will keep him at QPR through 2008.

    The BBC report that the R's are after 20-year-old Australian midfielder Nick Ward. Ward plays for the Perth Glory, has been involved with the Australia U-23s, and, according to the article" was recently included in the senior Australia squad for the first time." He won the A-League "Rising Star" award this year.

    Paul Jones has signed a one-year deal to remain at the club. The 39-year-old Welsh international keeper came in as cover when Royce and Cole were injured, but played well in his 14 starts and now will return for 06/07.

    I have a good feeling about this offseason signings, the big defender they signed seems like the real deal, and the fact that Waddock jettisoned Georges Santos makes me happy too. :)

    Reports indicate that QPR has made an offer for Stoke midfielder Karl Henry. Henry is out of contract, but because he is 23 years old, the R's would need to pay Stoke compensation.

    He's made 63 league starts and 57 sub appearances at Stoke in his career along with another 16 appearances in cups (12 starts, 4 subs), scoring two goals total. He also scored one goal in 8 starts and 1 sub appearance on loan at Cheltenham at the end of the 03/04 season.

    This year in the league, he made 11 starts and 13 sub appearances for the Potters in addition to 3 starts in the FA Cup and 1 start in the Carling Cup.

    Hopefully he'll work out better than Evatt, who was supposed to settle the position next to Shittu for a few years and is now on the transfer list.

    An article says that we are "said to have made enquiries" about Gillingham goalkeeper (and their 05/06 player of the season) Jason Brown, who is out of contract. The article says that Cardiff and Hibernian are also interested in the player.

    This appears to make little sense since the R's have just re-signed Jones to a one-year deal and still have Royce under contract (along with youngsters Cole, who may go on a season-long loan to get experience, and Sean Thomas).

    Ugo Ukah, who played twice for the first team last season, has left the club on a free transfer to join Italian Serie C2 club Nourese Calcio. The R's have a 50 percent sell-on clause. Ukah has signed a three-year deal with his new club.

    Also, in the same story the club reports that it has offered Lee Cook a two-year extension which would keep him at the club through '09. Paladini reports that they've talked to his agent and that Cook is interested in remaining with the club and that negotiations would begin when Cook returns from holiday.

    The story also reports that Shabazz Baidoo is expected to sign a two-year contract later this week. Baidoo is out of contract and the R's would be owed compensation if he left because of his age, but he's just beginning to break through and QPR definitely would like to keep him.

    In addition, the story reports that terms have been agreed with one player who will "give us more depth in the defensive unit" and that we'd like to sign one or two more strikers before the season begins. At the moment, we have the aging Furlong and Gallen, the apparently frail Nygaard, and the young Baidoo on the front line.

    There's a new interview with Gary Waddock on QPR World, but it doesn't give much away. He talks about the two players we signed already and says he has two or three more targets that they're trying to persuade to come to the club, but we have to be patient, and we might not finish building the team for next year until the preseason.

    Good news for the R's. Left midfielder and lifelong R's fan Lee Cook has signed a two-year contract extension with the club. Cook was already under contract for 06/07, so this deal will keep him at the club for three more years, through 08/09.

    Cook's comments:

    The BBC reports that QPR and Luton Town are interested in 25-year-old Wycombe defender Danny Senda. The story reports that Luton had an offer for him rejected last season and is "set to hold talks" with him now that he's rejected a new deal at Wycombe. QPR is listed as "also interested."

    Recent reports indicate:

    QPR is reported to have offered £300,000 for 20-year-old Southampton striker Dexter Blackstock. The R's were reported to have gone after Bradley Wright-Phillips, but lost out to Southampton, so have now turned their attentions toward Blackstock, who will find his first-team chances even more limited now at Southampton.

    He scored 3 goals in 8 starts and 1 sub appearance while on loan at Derby last season. The season before he scored 4 goals in 10 starts and 4 sub appearances for Plymouth. For Southampton, he's scored 4 goals in 15 starts and 13 sub appearances in the league, while knocking in 5 goals in 2 starts and 2 sub in the League Cup and 0 goals in 2 starts and 1 sub in the FA Cup. Southampton bought him for £275,000 from Oxford in 2003.

    Recent trialists for the R's include:

    22-year-old Polish striker Adam Czerkas, currently playing for Odra Wodzislaw;

    Egutu Oliseh, younger brother of former Nigeria captain Sunday Oliseh, who is a 25-year-old midfielder who played in Belgium for La Louviere last season and has previously played in France for Nancy and Grenoble;

    Left back Anthony Tonkin, who has made over 90 total appearances for Crewe over the past three seasons, and who previously played for Stockport and Yeovil;

    Betu Tshamanga, a striker from the Congo; and

    Tobi Jinadu, a center back who played for Aldershot the last two seasons.

    Watford is interested in Dan Shittu, but Gianni Paladini says that Big Dan won't be sold unless we receive an offer of £3 million. Shittu's contract says he must be allowed to speak to any club that offers £3m and Paladini says that while they have to honor that agreement, any offer for less will not be considered.

    The article says Leeds and West Brom have also shown intereste in Dan.

    GP says, "I don't want him to go. We're building a team and brought in Damion Stewart to play alongside him and we think those two will be a good combination.

    "I think he is worth more than £3m but because of the contract, there's nothing I can do if somebody offers us that.

    "Joleon Lescott went for £5m and Claude Davis went for £2.5m. Danny is a better defender than both of them.

    "Danny Shittu will definitely stay here unless someone offers £3m. It's as simple as that."

    Nice...young talented striker and young talented attacking midfielder, to go with nick Ward, another young talented attacking midfielder. I dont think there's any doubt what direction Waddock wants to go in this season. As much as I like guys like Rowly and Moore, I've long thought they're not the answer if we want to get to the next level.

    The BBC reports that QPR has agreed to a deal with Polish striker Adam Czerkas, who recently turned 22 years old. Czerkas' deal is pending a medical. The report indicates that he's expected to play in tomorrow's friendly.

    The report also indicates that Waddock is interested in Dexter Blackstock.

    In a new interview with Waddock on QPR World that came out today, he said that he was hoping to sign one or two strikers and maybe one more center back before the season starts. Looks like he's signed one of the strikers.
    I wonder how realistic that is! Seems unlikely, unless we're about to sell Shittu.

    It's official. The R's have signed 6'1 striker Adam Czerkas on a one-year loan from Kolporter Korona SSA, with an option to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the loan.

    Gary Waddock says, "He's got a great eye for goal, has terrific movement, is good with his back to goal and has the unique ability of being able to get in behind defenders. He'll complement our current crop of attackers and we've got extremely high hopes for him next season.''
