You know, we always used to hear from Mbappes mom/agent and whatever but is he living alone? And is this the first time doing so?
Don't get me wrong, I hate watching him play.... But I really want to see him under another manager not named Carlo. Sometimes all a player needs is clear direction. I thought he was his best under Tuchal at PSG.
It's worse. The mother is the one who is a nightmare, and she's moved to Madrid. His father, the football youth coach and academy owner, has stayed in France for Ethan Mbappe. The father was in charge of Mbappe's career... until 2021. That's when his mother took over the management of his career. His mother was not his agent when he moved from Monaco to PSG. Mbappe's father was always about football first whereas the mother is about money. They're divorced.
He was at his best under Tuchel and Poch. And you made a fair point. Maybe a different manager is the answer.
I hope that she's with him. Who else is going to do his laundry and make him Pop-Tarts while he's making his new comic book?
Just clocked that Kylian mbappe has less non-penalty goals in his last 40 games (10) than Ousmane Dembele (12)
I feel as if Carlo is the type of manager to get superstars like Mbappe to thrive. I’m going to be putting on my clown hat for the rest of the season; he will improve before it’s too late. I really can’t imagine a world where this poor form continues
Small fish found out in the ocean. Instead of giving him a reality check, he is being protected to stat pad(taking penalties) while hurting the cause of the team. We should learn from Hazard's experience and cut him off before it gets even more embarassing.
And on the other hand, everybody was saying similar things about Benzema for years, not months. Courtois was screamed at until February of his first season. Modric was seen as a failed signing by Mourinho early on. Zidane also struggled a lot in his first season. Now that I've calmed down, I'll be patient. Something is amiss and it is physical and mental, not just mental. So unless it stays this way until March, I'm going to stop freaking out.
Also, Mbappe can't talk about "showing who he is"... he needs to actually show it. It's not like we've seen even an amazing half of football from him let alone a full game. It will be interesting to see what he sets as a standard for himself. Will it be based on the Mbappe of old or a new lesser one?
First time at pick up tonight people were openly mocking Mbappe. Until now everyone has said he just needed time to adjust to the league. Tonight the commentary was very different; he's lazy, he stayed in France because he's mentally weak, he was too greedy, he's selfish, Madrid signed Hazard 2.0 -- the vibe around this guy has changed.
Patt of that is our results though. Most casuals follow us in Europe for the most part and that's where we were crushed by Milan and Liverpool. Vini's reputation as a top player suffered as well because of that despite of his good performances up until the injury.
At least Hazard didn’t clown with the club for years before getting signed. Years of humiliation in transfer market only to finally get this version of his is termed a debacle.
Our poor results are also in large part due to inefficient attack. Only Vinicius is in rather consistent form. Yesterday, apart from penalty, Mbappe and Rodrygo had several good chances. One of them goes in and it's much easier to play.
I still think this dude is going to be fine in the end. I don’t think this is ultimately going to be anything like a Hazard 2.0 situation. I mean I think there’s merit to the idea that he stayed in a bad league too long and accumulated some bad habits. But I don’t buy this idea that he’s just purely a flat track bully or doesn’t have the talent or mentality to succeed at the highest level. But even though I absolutely would have made the signing last summer I feel super vindicated about my overall view of the player. A lot of people thought in 2020 and 2022 that we were chasing after the next CR. It was always clear to me that he (nor anyone else) is nowhere near that level, and that molding our entire transfer strategy around him was a mistake, even if he was probably the best attacking player of this generation. Happily we won a lot of trophies despite a questionable transfer strategy so it’s all water under the bridge. But he can cause big problems for us moving forward if he doesn’t figure it out (he will).
