The problem with Mbappe is something different though. He’s a megalomaniac. A story came out on L’Équipe that he wanted to skip France’s September call up too but his parents talked him out of it.

since he’s behaving like a petulant entitled child, he better play up to par. Needs to show effort on the pitch too and not walk around whenever Madrid don’t have the ball.

would love to see Carlo bench him for 2-3 games and see how he reacts. Will tell a lot.

Just because you're some world-class player doesn't mean you'll hit the ground running in a new team. Lots of factors to take into account.

Zidane unimpressed for 4-5 months considering his price tag at the time, at the age of 29.

Modric was labelled the worst signing ever in Spain.

It's one thing to have some off finishing, but the guy is one of the two fastest players on the pitch and can't beat the offside "trap" at the halfway line.

Maybe some nerves aside, that's common sense.

That would be excusable if we were talking only about his lack of scoring, but we're talking about his sub-par general play, heavy touches, bad decision-making and his non-existent defensive work.
    This doesn't fly here.

The whole team needs to be better. We can't just isolate one person.

A wise man once said "mo money = mo problems".

The more you earn the bigger the expectations. Simple math. But I agree, everyone on the team (bar Thibaut) needs to do better.

I agree, and I never isolated him.

And it’s not just the team that needs to be better, it’s the board as well.

He's playing CF on the same line as CBs. He's used to playing left wing where everything is in front of him in terms of offsides. Very different space management as a CF. Also, as a winger, your runs start lower so you can begin a bit early.

Just a new position. I wasn't shocked that he got caught on the offsides trap... but that it happened so often. 3 of them were by a whisker.

Yeah that last match was horrible. If he stays onside we score twice and it's a different match because we aren't desperately chasing so we can control it and allow Hansi to take the risks we can now exploit

Instead he misses the ones he is onside for and scores the ones he is woefully offside.

Very very bad match and I'm one of the guys who has defended his start at Madrid.

The truth is I rather he start poorly like Modric then find his footing then start on fire like Jude and cool off.

Just rewatch some of his "highlights" during clasico.

I don't mind a player starting off slow but he was atrocious that game. Especially a player of that caliber.

He's at 9.0 for us this season. Our other forwards have better numbers (Vini 9.5, Rodrygo 10.2).

We're really going to need him to do a Modric. I don't think he has it in him, but I'd rather him prove me wrong than me being right.

I think Mbappe is relieved that Vini didn't win the BD'Or. It might actually help him do better now..

I agree that in this game he was more at fault for the offsides. But add James, Ozil, Odegaard, Modric or Kroos type of player who have the through balls in mind before they even touch the ball and you have 50% of them onside.
These are things that are both dependent on being practised and to have the vision and technical ability to execute. If you want to beat the defenders and have the best chance of scoring, you should start the run earlier than them and it should be in sync with the pass….

At this level you shouldn't see that a forward is making a run already and then decide to pass him a through ball. That seeing, thinking, executing takes 1-2 seconds which usually puts the attacker in offside or the defender is running with him and it is 50:50 situation and not a 1 on 1 with the GK.

My problem is with how slow our front line is to get back to onside position when we have the ball in our half. There was an instance in classico where 4-5 off our players were several meters outside just slowly walking back. When that happens, it puts immense pressure to our backline to build from the back because now we are outnumbered. So they will either loose the ball in dangerous areas, or just hoof it forward for our forwards to be caught offside.

Don't know the reason but to me it is either lack of effort or poor physical condition.

We are hardly moving the ball fast enough for that to be a problem. We have bigger problems right now than the forwards taking their time getting back from offside positione

Let me tell you a little secret: its tactics;)

Motion to change the name of the thread to "The prince who turned into a frog" or "The emperor who had no clothes". I prefer the first as it completes Mbappe's amphibian character, after looking like a lizard and behaving like a snake:whistling:

The team is severely lacking in the passing department overall.

Barca’s high line was pretty reminiscent of a team chasing a game. The midfield should have been able to feed better and more consistent line breaking balls.

Pretty lame the team couldnt capitalize on the first half.

Compare this game to that in the Super Cup final. Exactly the same tactics but different outcomes. We all know what the problems were this last time out

In what way? Everything i said was factual.

Bale was pretty funny actually.... he would run straight out of bounds for no reason early on lol. It's as if he had forgotten where the line was. But he turned it around once he settled in Jan/Feb.

Modric... ostracized by Mourinho. Nothing new with Mou.

Zidane... took him a while to adapt to Real Madrid. I'm a huge Zizou fan and I watched a lot of those games. His first season wasn't great until very late. Read this: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/la-...real-madrid-work-out/f90f26557a32634210452aec

Cannavaro... mentioned as much about his struggles here https://www.managingmadrid.com/2020...fficult-adaptation-period-when-at-real-madrid

Kaka... basically disappeared because of injuries and the arrival of Ozil in his 2nd year at Madrid.
