Bro you need to relax a bit here, it’s sports, people wanting a football player to play for their football team is not out of touch with reality. Yea it’s unrealistic right now but come on, he’s a super striker of course some people will prefer having him on our team in the future.
Mbappe tried at 9 for France today... and it was terrible. Good intentions but doesn't know what he's doing 70 percent of the time. Just really has no reflexes of a 9. Pretty sure he's going to move left for France now. Granted, France was playing this like a friendly. You can tell with the lack of intensity and bad defense, which doesn't happen. We may play ugly; but when we're trying, we don't concede easy goals. Saliba and Konate, who both look excellent at club, we're kind of jogging around in central defense.
And why do I keep saying he's not a 9... As a 9, you're playing to his weaknesses. Namely, close ball control, tight area passing, static attacking actions, air game. Mbappe's strengths are pace, movements into open areas, and dribbling with space. He's a great finisher facing goal at any speed.
Superteams are boring and I have an internal reflex to hope they fail. It's more fun to see a team come together. Reason why the team was more fun when certain people left tbh.
Can't play on the right. He's cutting onto his weak foot. PSG tried it in his first season and he barely scored (21 goals all comps). Put Neymar at 10 and moved him left after that. he can only play right in a 442 or a hybrid system (like France used to play where Griezmann was technically left but was really a 10 as in WC 2018).
Whatever system or role.., he needs to face the goal with space in front of him. Defenders have to fear his pace and his dribbling with space. Otherwise, there is no point.
Henry already pointed thay Mbappe needs to improve on certain aspects of his game to be effectively play as a CF. Whether he could adapt or not is to be seen. These inside forwards who cut inside is all the rage these days
Haha, no point. You have got to be be kidding me. I feel Mbappe is already playing quite well. He's a cut above, so he'll be fine wherever he plays in that forward line.
The Mbappe thing is crazy.....watched France - Italy and honestly was pretty good especially in the first half. Looking fitter, faster and created danger several times... combined really well with Barcola. If you read the French press, you'd swear he was the worst on the pitch. The agenda this year against him (and Real Madrid) is crazy. I just hope we rub everyone's faces in it soon with some big trophies.
agreed. He’s looking like he’s regaining that burst of speed that made even more elite. That turn he did at the midway line and accelerated against Betis was that flash we were used to a few years ago is coming back and with frequency. He’s going to go on a run where he’s bagging buckets of goals. It’s evident that he’s working hard in training - he’s definitely focused right now.
Human nature Build up something new and exciting Worship it when it delivers tear it down at the first sign of trouble
Activity does not equal achievement. He's fitter and faster... sure. But he had 2 shots the whole game with 1 on target. After the first 15 mins of the game, he was not dangerous. I thought he played a very poor game (like the whole team other than Barcola). I'm not saying that he's given up, gotten fat, plays without motivation, etc. Not at all. I'm saying that he is average as a 9 and the position plays to his weaknesses. He's getting benched tomorrow against Belgium too as is most of the team that played Italy(punishment by Deschamps). Word is... he's losing his status as an undisputed regular for France very soon if he does not get it going. Captaincy will automatically be lost if that happens. Needs to wake up. Not much equity left. The starting 11 against Belgium that is announced looks atrocious btw. Gonna get beaten again. Very similar to Madrid with no midfielders (all injured)... just DMs. Fofana - Kone double pivot looool. Thuram/Kolo Muani/Dembele attack (sigh). Defense will be good this time though. Going for the 0-0 draw. Fun times.
France's depth of talent is wildly overstated, several "talents" are closer to the start of their 30s than the beginning of their 20s.
I already told you, the moment this topic was titled "Prince that was promised" was the moment everything went downhill for Mbappe. He doesn't play in his natural position (LW) and is forced to play number 9 in which he doesn't feel comfortable at all. Like many of us feared before this season, he ruined a good chemistry which was established last season. I see this season as another wasteful season where will be 10+ behind Barca before Christmas.
He'll be fine lol. look at the progression from the euros where he looked like he was carrying an extra 10kg. France has a lot more issues than Mbappe playing 9. 1. Deschamps sucks 2. The team has no playmakers. A bunch of athletic defensive minded guys with little "football". Your problem is midfield and not anywhere else. The only player linking midfield to attack who is a bit creative is Griezmann who in my opinion has always been a little overrated....and is now on the decline it seems. Time to rejuvenate the squad. Throwing out Mbappe...although it seems the French will love (some weird revenge thing it seems lol) is a stupid solution. He is still by far your best player. Smart move is to help him get back to the top.
Then again, you predict the team will lose all the time and become a ghost when it doesn't. It's such a cowardly lifestyle. Zero fun.
Imagine thinking Mbappe will lose his starting position if he doesn't get going, whatever that means. Absolute madness!
Heavy boos when he came in at the 70th min for France. France was up 2-0 at the time against Belgium and was looking fluid. In terms of talent, no question about Mbappe. The issue is that Thuram and Kolo Muani are better center forwards. You could see it today. The physical impact and the air game opened the areas and the options for Dembele and others. The instinct to follow up a shot for a rebound got Kolo Muani a goal. Mbappe came in and looked ok because the spaces were open for him. Got 4 shots in a short time but missed a 1v1 and also missed good opportunities. A lot of technical issues though as he made poor passes in play. Also, no defense. Thuram and Kolo Muani played Belgium hard and wore them down. Against Italy, the sides were 1v1 for Italy and often had 1v2. Today, 2v1 every time. Never undermanned on either wing. France lost possession when Barcola and Mbappe came in. Personally, i think it's too many dribblers with Barcola, Dembele and Mbappe playing together. The ball is stopped too often as each is trying to go 1v1. When Dembele was with Kolo Muani and Thuram... the ball moved a lot faster. Old saying: A pass will always move the ball faster than a dribble. I think Mbappe with Thuram and Olise is great. BUT, that means Mbappe has to play defense. So here's the bottom line: Either Mbappe has enough of an impact on the attack for France that the imbalance he brings defensively is moot... or he's benched. I'm calling it now. He has until next summer to prove it. Olise, Barcola, Dembele, Thuram, Kolo Muani and, eventually, Nkunku have plenty of talent too. It's very competitive.
I think you're right. Kid is a bust. Derailed his career playing so many years at PSG with humongous wages. There's no salvaging the player he was before his big money move and renewal. Its over.
Has the most goals for us this season deemed the worst player and the problem Washed up Damaged goods What a dramatic bunch
Still too early to call him a flop, washed up etc., but it's never too early to get ahead of the game and stake your claim before people start jumping ships, hype trains and band wagons.
He's not a flop. Nowhere near. But at some point, if your performances aren't at the level expected, you have to put yourself into question. You're not scoring... then help defend a bit. It won't kill you. France played better without Mbappe today. By a lot. That's a fact. Why? Thuram, who is a CF, did a lot of work to help recover the ball. As a result, France were able to control the pace of game. Thuram also intelligently went left or central depending on the movement of Kolo Muani. It was very smooth because it was a natural result of whether Thuram or Kolo Muani were more defensive before the ball recovery (Kolo Muani made a lot of defensive efforts too). So what's changed for Mbappe since before? Well he's at CF... so teams aren't afraid of the ball going to him on a wing and getting burned. His back is to goal and he's central so the CBs can cover. When left, CBs didn't have the time to cover him when starting from a central position. Result = one or two extra players are free to attack on the opposition... namely the right back and/or a midfielder. His impact is so diminished at CF, with France at least, that it's painful. Also, there's something wrong with him i think. He doesn't have that fire anymore. Has he lost some of his passion? Is he having a confidence crisis? I don't know. But something is clearly wrong. Hope Madrid and Carlo can get him straight. He needs help because he's not fixing it himself.
