It's an anomaly. This never happened in the past... and will never happen again frankly. BdO is a popularity contest these days anyhow. So I don't put much stock in awards anymore anyhow.

It's been the case since 2000 actually. Serie A started losing superstars like Zidane and R9 during first Galactico era. PL lost Ronaldo in his prime to RM. Barca had Dinho, Messi, Henry, Neymar etc. Bale and Suarez left PL to join RM and Barca.

Meanwhile, PL currently is headlined by oil state club that's under investigation for 115 financial infractions. Utd have been a mess since since Fergie retired. Chelsea lost Roman and got Boehly clown show. Liverpool went from Roy Hodgson, Rogers to Klopp who did well, but now has an unproven coach again.

Haaland is seen as flat track bully there and top CBs treat him like a lamp post in big CL games. Kane went to Bayern. Bellingham snubbed all the big PL clubs. It's only a surprise when a superstar goes to PL actually. Haaland will probably leave in a year or two.

They got so much money, but letting City financial dope for more than a decade has also meant Utd, Arsenal and Pool remained unappealing for superstars all these years. And some players will always reject City because they feel it's a plastic club.

Arsenal for example have a talented squad, but their ceiling to reach next level will always be capped when they are resorted to spending 120 ME on Gab Jesus and Havertz to score the goals.

RM changing strategy a bit signing Vini, Fede, Rodrygo, Endrick etc to develop them while also having the ability to sign Bellingham, Mbappe puts the club in a great position.

My guy, when Madrid calls you, there isn't a "legit" better option for you. Unless you're a money grabbing, Harlem Globetrotter type personal brand oriented "enterpreneur" rather than a footballer. Tell me what has Mbappe would have missed on by choosing the legit best option for him the first two times? Champions leagues? Balon Dors?

If a player wants to win the Champions League, which significantly boosts their chances of winning the Player of the Year award, they'd come to Madrid. You can say whatever you want, but that's just the reality. Regardless of Messi, Ronaldo, or anything else, a player prioritizing their professional career goals wants to play here—not because they love Real Madrid, but because they want the prestige of winning the biggest titles in the sport.

That would be a nice touch. I remember the club invited Eusebio to present with Cristiano at his presentation.

To be honest, it's not just simply loo for someone to blame. Corruption and nepotism has led to many governments failing to increase living standards for the bottom and middle classes. The alternatives are nearly always liberals pandering to the extreme left. That then leaves a massive opening for people on the so called right. People just want a common sense approach to politics but can't seem to get it anywhere so vote for the extreme right.

What's up with this guy going into politics at every opportunity.

I really don't like that. A guy living in a bubble should just shut the feck up about these things.

Just kick the damn ball and don't talk too much.

and it leads to an own goal. :D

Don't want to go off topic too much since there is a thread for that stuff, but Mbappe has every right to talk politics. If he can't, who can? Only politicians?

Funny the people who want athletes to shut up and dribble typically have no problem voicing their opinion in public forums and some of them in obnoxious ways
