Since the transfer speculation thread is the only one that has been active recently (and it's the only one you see, depending on your settings), I thought I would create a thread regarding the completely worthless pre-season matches. Six friendlies have been scheduled before the start of the Premier League season in three weeks' time. The first three are part of Albion's annual trip to Denmark. The first result from Denmark was a scoreless draw with Odense BK Tuesday. They will then face FC Fredericia Saturday afternoon and FC Midtjylland Tuesday night.
FC Fredericia 0 - 2 West Bromwich Albion Albion won their second match of the Denmakr tour this afternoon, beating Danish First Division side Fredericia 2-0. James O'Connor - probably not the first name one would expect - got the winner 28 minutes into the match. Dobie put the game away in the final minute of the match with a second. After Hoult's clean sheet against Odense Tuesday, Albion's new keepers Tomasz Kuszczak and Simon Miotto worked together to produce another.
Re: FC Fredericia 0 - 2 West Bromwich Albion Here is my pretty rubbish pre-season friendly preview I wrote for westbrom.com http://www.westbrom.com/preseason.html
FC Midtjylland 0 - 2 West Bromwich Albion Neil Clement and Scott Dobie got the goals against Super League Midtjylland as Albion finished their Danish tour without a defeat. Russell Hoult and the new-look Albion back line also made sure the Baggies left Denmark without conceding a goal.
Stoke City 2 West Bromwich Albion 1 It doesn't matter that Albion are in the top flight... Stoke remain one of the Baggies' big bogey teams. Dave Brammer and former Wulf Ade Akinbiyi scored for Stoke while Dobie continued his good pre-season form with Albion's lone goal. Fortunately, this is a match that doesn't matter where the standings are concerned. But one that shows that there is still much room for improvement.
Bristol City 1 West Bromwich Albion 3 The Baggies penultimate match of the preseason ended with a won at Asthon Gate last night. Bristol took an early lead on Leroy Lita's goal three minutes in, but two goals for Scott Dobie, and one by Riccardo Scimeca put Albion in firm control. Bristol used a completely different XI in the second half, but could not muster much of an attack as Albion dominated possession. After conceding the early goal, Russell Hoult produced a performance that solidifies his spot as Albion's No. 1.
West Bromwich Albion 0 - 0 Boavista In a final friendly before the Premier League season begins, Albion and Portuguese Super Liga side Boavista could manage no goals this afternoon at the Hawthorns. Albion fans got their first glimpse of Kanu in a Baggies shirt when he came off the bench in the second half for Geoff Horsfield. Unfortunately, Zoltan Gera suffered a knock in training and was unable to make his anticipated home debut.]
Benfica, Boavista... well at least I had the country correct. Fortunately, as the moderator, I can change the post after the "time limit."
