It is both interesting and true. We’ve also know about it for almost a year. McGonigol. This should have been one of the bigger scandals of our lifetimes. Remarkable that it gets buried in our subconscious to the point many otherwise engaged individuals don’t recall it.

Btw - why do you think the Russians got the MAGA’s to start pushing that “deep state” shit? It’s cover for the fact that the Russians have infiltrated places like the FBI and congress. When the FBI and DoJ start indicting…and those indicted all end up being from a certain political persuasion…you get to claim the indictments were politically motivated rather than based on evidence and actual crimes.

The Russians goals have always been to take us down from the inside…going back to the Cold War.

Yeah, IMO this kind of thing is just 2 notches behind something like Iran-Contra, a scandal that defined Reagan’s second term. With Trump, it’s just random detritus on the side of the highway.

I wouldn’t say we’re ********ed. Harris could win and at least in 2026 we have a functioning senate (or maybe 2024, with some big breaks) and then we can start delousing the judiciary, law enforcement, all the rest. But it is very true that if American democracy survives this election, and the next one, and the next one…the rot is very, very, very deep. Trump as symptom vs. Trump as idiosyncratic was an interesting thing to discuss 5, 6, 7 years ago. Now it’s kind of pointless…Trumpism IS Republicanism. It’ll be years for that to change.
