So today is the day the Judge set for Garland’s DOJ to file an appeal....or she would release the misleading memo. Nothing from DOJ so far......
No. But not responding to the judge’s request until the midnight deadline kinda implies you’re going to appeal. Do you have a different read? this should be a slam dunk. The judge accused Barr of lying to her about the contents of the memo. That there is any debate on what to do in Garland’s DOJ says a lot...and not much good.
Am I wrong in my understanding...? If he doesn’t respond at all, then the memo gets released, right? Or are you saying he should have already responded by saying he wouldn’t appeal?
I think he is saying he should have already responded. That makes no sense to me. Just don't respond and when asked say we got caught up in other work and thought you had more time. It is a subtle wink wink FU Barr and Magats.
Remember the hoo raw when the Defense of Marriage Act was not defended-- why announce that you aren't going to fight release? Just let the time expire without comment. Who owes anything at all to the Barr DOJ?
Explain the politics of this to me Now: DOJ notifies the court that it will appeal a judge's order to release a March 2019 memo re: not prosecuting Trump for obstruction in the Russia probe. More to come shortly. pic.twitter.com/BiXXX7qNKQ— Zoe Tillman (@ZoeTillman) May 25, 2021 and then explain why we’re talking about the politics of this when discussing a FOIA request in which the DOJ lied about what was contained in the memo in order to stop the release.
It is a partial appeal. They are not concerned with the Judge releasing some info but making public redacted info sets a bad precedent. They are tryna deal with that aspect.
Not to mention that the DoJ is supposed to non-political. Barr pissed on that, but redacted info is usually names of people, or other highly sensitive information. Perhaps some or all of that redacted information is relevant to a current investigation, and releasing that information could damage that investigation.
It’s A LOT more than that. Later in the tweet thread she posts the document and only the first page and a half of a 9 page document is visible.
Donald Trump's attorney defended the ex-President's incendiary speech on January 6, saying he is protected under the First Amendment and had "absolute immunity" while he was President to contest the election, according to a court filing this week https://t.co/KPyjQpA9wu— CNN (@CNN) May 25, 2021
Which is odd, because he was not acting in his role as President when making his speech and this argument would seem to allow for Presidents to commit any crime they wish while President..
Tick tock: NEW: NY prosecutor convenes a grand jury to hear evidence, decide on indictments in the Trump Org investigation. With the amazing @shaynajacobs.https://t.co/bIJOt1tcT1— David Fahrenthold (@Fahrenthold) May 25, 2021
Just to note.. If there are indictments, it is not likely going to be for Trump or a family member. It is most likely going to be their accountant and the hope is to flip him and get him to spill the beans on Trump and Co.
What he did wouldn't be considered a crime being a President or civilian / political figure. I think that has already been clarified wether we like it or not.
Didn't say it was. Just noting that Trump's lawyer's logic that he had "absolute immunity" would extend to crimes as well. However, in this case, its a civil lawsuit over Trump's actions as a civilian who happened to be President. He shouldn't have immunity in that case and they should struggle to justify that him speaking at a political rally was part of his duties as the President.
Interesting article with a fine list of the family crimes. Trump regime’s amazing list of crimes keeps getting longer — but we can't afford to look away Spying on journalists, stealing children, abducting activists from the streets — it could happen again, and worse https://www.salon.com/2021/05/27/tr...ting-longer--but-we-cant-afford-to-look-away/
The Grand Jury choices start today. Jesus, do not let the trumps slide again. The country.....or me couldn’t handle it.
