Can't really argue with any of these. I think they all deserve to be there.

 

I really hope The Police reunite to play for the induction ceremony.

 

God I hope so.

 

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is so superfluous.

 

What ???. No Ned's Atomic dustbin, Reynolds Girls or Daphne and Celeste ?

 

I wouldn't argue with these choices either (although I am reminded of David Lee Roth's quote about Elvis Costello), but who in in the name of Ronnie James Dio does Black Sabbath have to kill to get into this thing?

They've been a huge influence on various genres over three decades now, and still they get ignored!

 

I hope not.

I wonder how they all feel about this...I'm sure the Police think this is just peanuts. As for Elvis, maybe he can finally truthfully say he's really not angry anymore. And for the boys in the Clash I'm sure they're all sitting back in the garage seeing their bulls__ detectors register in the red.

I like that they induct non-famous types like sidemen who helped make the music happen, but, again, I do think the process is a bit political.

 

Robert Hilburn! .... Oh, the pain....! No, .... 59 times the pain! The very name makes my eyes bleed with nausea.

Please tell me he's stopped writing for the LA Times.

 

Very political. There seems to be an under-reprensentation of Brits. How can Aerosmith and AC/DC be in before Sabbath ?

 

They should arrange it like the NFL or Cooperstown inductions...so many tries and you're out. Sorry pal. Or some years they shouldn't induct anybody.

But I will so dig AC/DC blowing everyone else away at the induction cermony. Sting's tantric and yoga will not prepare him for Angus' full blast of ROCK!

not one British female inductee...though I'm hard pressed to come up with one I'd nominate right away...

 

Black Sabbath is not in because Ozzy has said repeatedly that he would not accept it.

This was the first year that the Sex Pistols could have been inducted. They weren't selected likely because they were much more of a UK sensation than a US one, and I'd guess that the nominators are mostly Americans. With The Clash in this year, they'll likely go in next.

Wasn't Van Halen up for induction this year? If Aerosmith can be inducted on their first try. Also, Chic was eligible this year; they will likely get in at some point over the next couple of years.

 

I'm pretty sure the Sex Pistols were eligible last year, this is their 2nd year of missing out.

 

I don't know when Never Mind The Bollocks was released in the UK, but it was released in the US by EMI in October 1977, so this is the 25th year. By comparison, Ramones was released in May 1976.

 

Wasn't the 'Anarchy in the UK' single late 76?
As for British female inductees, Dusty Springfield is on that list.

 

I thought Dusty Springfield was British but I'm not positive.

As for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The entire concept of a hall of fame for rock is stupid. Rock was born as a form of rebellion. Those pangs of rebellion continued to fuel it through folk, reggae, punk, etc. To institutionalize it in a hall of fame is such a fvcking baby boomer thing to do. It sucks the lifeblood of rebellion out of the music and pushes it into the world of muzak.

Rock is dangerous at its best and sucks when it is safe inside a tourist trap. I'd urge everyone to reject the hall of fame.

As the Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments say "Piss on the rock and roll hall of fame. It is better to be indicted by it than inducted to it."
