Multiple times Nelson has stated that they have a plan and we should trust them. Personally I think the plan needs to be public, at least largely so. I'd like to dedicate this thread to any concrete evidence they give of their plans and to our own ideas for what the plan should be. For starters, I firmly believe (as intimated above) that the community needs a stake in the creation of the plan in order for it to be more fully engaged. We allowed the front office in on the discussions during the creation of the charter. A similar courtesy is needed in return. Anyone else have any thoughts on the subject?
Great points overall, and I basically agree. I will still "give 'em enough rope," so in the meantime I'm focusing on what we all agree is needed. Let's look at it this way: Nelson is as temporary as any player we've had. Let's help build something that outlasts him. That's our role and responsibility.
Plan so far: 1) Hire a GM with a solid reputation as a league bureaucrat and good connections across the national soccer landscape but not much of a record of performing some of the the taks required of a GM 2) Fire a bunch of people who did their jobs well because your new GM hire believes in some half baked version of collective responsibility. 3) Hire a manager with a good reputation as a youth coach in a NT setup who has never managed/coached with a professional club. 4) Retain the holdover TD (until January, at least) because you realize that neither your GM or 1st team manager have spent enough time with the drafting processes and are not fully prepared for this cycle. Hope that your holdover TD clicks with the GM/ manager of the 1st team. 5) When in doubt, take the money.
He doesn't need a plan. He should just state some vague goals that seem realistic. If he said we want to accomplish three things this season, such as ... 1) Establish a core base of Fire Players 2) Establish a formation that will be used by all Fire Teams 3) Incorporate more youth via US Open Cup games and USL matches. We would be happy. Instead we gets "we have a plan" and "we are working on" which is just useless.
Another team with a start to their plan: http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2015/...ompleted-training-complex-signals-new-chapter As I saw somewhere else written by someone else, the 1st team may have a set budget amount for players but it is infinite for the rest of the stuff. Why are the Fire not providing this kind of thing?
“I think players are going to walk in next year and say, ‘This is the place I want to play,’” Sugarman said. We need some of this: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/aspirational
There is a plan. 1. Buy cheap, sub par DPs with allocation money. With no regard to roster fit or squad balance. Very little money should be spent out of Hauptman's pocket. 2. Promote youth and hope they show out well enough to earn a decent transfer fee in the future. 3. Make good profit, and keep riding MLS' growth until Andell can sell at 500% initial value.
"The plan" is: buy second rate "DP's" and pick up cheap players and HOPE they work out. That's been the "plan" under Hauptman ever since he bought the team. It hasn't worked.
Or can you? In the convoluted system used in the fuzzy salary cap I am sure if they wanted to they could find a way.
you forgot step 3: if steps 1 & 2 don't work out, fire everyone and tell the rubes "X wasn't good enough" and you have now hired the right staff to turn this around. repeat as necessary.
well, they could, but they won't. it'd be fairly easy to use all the garberbux on player salaries, and then invest your own money in non-cap related enhancements like training facilities, USL, etc. See, for example, almost every fvcking team in the league. but why would Andy do that when he can use all the garberbux on player salaries and then invest his own money in naked chicks at the next white party?
Without a visible, public plan, the Fire can pretend that losing Larry Sunderland was part of that plan. It's just talk until we have concrete steps outlined and evidence that progress is being made. We need to see a plan for the academy and USL teams.
