Before you celebrate a goal, always check that no flags are up!

But this is very encouraging. I congratulate SOB.

CONGRATS! But will Philly be number 16th expansion club for 2009 or 2010?

according to what garber said at the MLS SuperDraft, the 16th team would begin play in the 2010 season in their own soccer-specific stadium.

Couldn't happen to a nicer group of SOB's!

Congratulations (optimistically) from a guy whose wife hails from Newtown Square.

Once this deal is done, I hope you blow the lid off season ticket commitments and surpass Seattle and Toronto.

That stadium is going to be sooooo sweeeeetttt!

    Well done!

Does this mean St. Louis finally gets in too? Cause it is still possible to get a stadium up by 2009.......

This is the question, isn't it. First, I don't think St. Louis could get a stadium built by opening day 2009. So they'd need to have a back-up plan that MLS would sign off on.

Honestly, I'm way way way too impatient for Philly to start playing. I'd rather they played a year (2009) in another stadium until their riverside jewel of a stadium was built.

My big question is - what's with MLS leasing the stadium? According to that article, the state will own the land and the stadium, and MLS will lease it.

Isn't the point of an SSS, besides improving the atmosphere, the financial freedom it gives the MLS and their teams because they own the stadium??

Someone more educated will be along after me but I believe it is tax related. Something that if the state owns the property the team is not liable for property taxes they would otherwise owe. The state then leases the stadium for $1 or something ridiculous like that. I think this is the model for a number of other SSS.

Tax free for a low dollar lease. I think they mentioned a dollar a year lease at the Del Co press conference in October. It is a very financially wise move with options built in through the stadium's 30+ year life cycle from jewel to obsolesence.

So does this mean that 100% of the expected public funding is in place? I thought there had to be a vote of some type.

There is. But those are just minor details.

Lets just hope for Philly's sake that Sakiewicz is not the one making the announcement.

I cant wait to see your jewel of stadium to be built. I love it so much. I wish our stadium could look somewhat good.

and I hope you guys get really good attendance. We need more passionate teams and more rivalries. It will be fun doing a road trip down to ur stadium.

Can we add something to the effect of "Philly has funding" to the title. If I hadn't already read the article I might have skipped this thread.
