Couple Questions: 1. Do we see Pierre for the US Open Cup? 2. Does Q Sullivan get sold over the summer? I think yes for somewhere around $6M-8M.
Pierre seems close to a debut, but he's still only a 17 year old CB. So far, that doesn't seem like the kind of thing Carnell is going to do. He's not playing youngsters for the sake of playing youngsters. He's going for results, and so-far so-good. 3-0 over Atlanta in the East is a big result. Maybe start others in that USOC game, and if the team is up late....................give him a debut.
Someone has to do an every-touch of Cavan v NYCFC II- it's almost comical how bad he is destroying this team (aside from the 6yd sitter he missed). Still only 0-1 though in the 55m. I'm sure Augusto Carrizo won't have much to say after this one.
Yeah.... it is starting to bother me that Carnell is giving a 25-year-old CAM in Rafanello the sub minutes that would certainly be better invested in one of the most hyped 15-year-old US players of all time. Even when they are up 2 or 3 / nil in the 75th minute+ the coach keeps giving the minutes to a CAM that still hasn't panned out at 25 and/or he brings in Bedoya who is 37 and is certainly on his last legs. Carnell is wasting these opportunities and IMO the brass should put their foot down and demand the kid gets minutes. I would argue the same when it comes to Pierre. The dude has monster potential and has balled at the lower levels and for USYNTs. But he would prefer to play Harriel instead?... Even though he is a RB... not a CB. It is so short sighted and is starting to stunt the pro-homegrown aspect of the team that has made it one of my favorites to follow.
Agreed. I love Pierre but I did see 2 preseason games and Pierre didn't look good, probably still needs a bit of muscle. CBs develop late, he'll be in Europe at 18 anyway. But he is too good for MLSNP. He needs a loan to a USL team. They have a bunch of games in early May so I think both will get time, at least Cavan. This front office was gifted a golden generation- Pierre plus the 08s, and they are pissing it away. Saidi- gone, Wesseh (who scored for ATL II tonight) gone- Chirila bros - gone, J Johnson has been MIA all season. The one positive I see is LeBlanc is starting to become a real player.
NYCFC II did not show up for this game, at all. More than a little embarrassing for everyone on the field.
it felt like the NYCFC buildup was getting strangled all night by the Philadelphia press. Not much Carrizo could do given the situation. Props to the Union though, and Cavan looked fantastic
He was pretty good last season. Deserved a bump in pay for sure and is proving he’s worth a lot more so far this season. I don’t think he’ll be with Philly next season unless he wants to stay.
Really good to see Jamir Johnson playing so well this weekend, after having a relatively quiet season so far. Scored a hattrick v DC. We was playing striker, with Malik, and was causing all sorts of problems. Still think he would do best as a winger in a 4-3-3 but that's not happening while he's in Philly.

Neil Pierre out 4-6 weeks with a knee injury. Bad timing as he was probably going to get some first team minutes in the next few games.
Midweek action tied 2-2 in the 70th. The urge to sub in Chris Donovan and Jesus Bueno is almost palpable. Edit: Cavan on and plays a part in the winner

Andrew Rick looks increasingly confident in the nets. The last couple of times I've seen him, he's looked sharp. Could this be the last year of Andre Blake? He has one more guaranteed year on his contract, right? He's got 2026 with a club option for 2027? Maybe Philly should think about cashing in on him after this season, and hand the reins to Rick. What do you think? Another week, another Andrew Rick masterclass https://t.co/v06XI43v6e— American Ultras Talk (@usmntaut) May 18, 2025
Rick still has some shaky moments. The high end moments are there, but there are times he looks his age. It will probably be bumpy, but I hope he gets to start next season.

In the Atl game at the weekend and again last night vs the Riverhounds, the Union went through a few formation changes during the match- 4-2-2-2, 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1. Which surprised me a bit considering Ernst's distaste for wingers. I'm wondering if Carnell is giving himself some freedom since they got off to such a good start?? During his presser last night, when asked about Cavan's play, he mentioned how well he performed when they moved him inside. And I agree completely. Cavan is twice the player when he's in the middle with a license to roam. It will be interesting to see how this plays out - as they've sold two of their top players who don't fit into their 4-2-2-2 system. Now it's becoming clear they may have to change to get the most out of the crown jewel..
