Philadelphia Union Academy forward Jamir Johnson is currently on trial at PSV.Back in May, Jamir received a call-up to the U-16 US National Team for their matches against Uruguay and Argentina.Additionally, Jamir has been an integral part of the U17 squad for the Union.… pic.twitter.com/sdaXpeCMzd— José Roberto Nuñez (@JoserNunez91) August 5, 2024
Well deserved. This kid is a serious player. Kinda flies under the radar because of Cavan. That would be a perfect fit for him.
I think JJ is the kid in the academy right now other than Neil Pierre that the club sees as a clear future first team guy at the moment. Will be interesting to see what route he takes.
I believe he only has US and Jamaican citizenship, so he wouldn't be eligible to go until 18, correct? Which would be summer of 2026.
Didn't realize he's from Hillsborough. Apparently a PDA kid, too. That's Red Bulls territory through and through.
When we interviewed Union II striker Eddy Davis in June, he talked of his decision to come to the Union and his aspirations for playing in Europe. It seems he is in Denmark and trialing. He’s had a great season with U2, 2nd in MLS Next Pro in goals #doop📷: Eddy Davis insta pic.twitter.com/NCcOSVqImR— Jillian All-$$ (@Silly__Jilly) August 8, 2024 I was wondering where Eddie Davis was for this game. Apparently trialling in Denmark.
It seems like PSV is, in NCAA College Football terms, "sending the house" after Jamir Johnson. The young U-16 standout for Philadelphia is currently on trial at PSV, and he had the opportunity to watch a match at Philips Stadium and meet US International Malik Tillman.#doop… pic.twitter.com/IC1AYYTMq9— José Roberto Nuñez (@JoserNunez91) August 11, 2024
If taking a player to a first team game is sending the house then many MLS academies regularly send the mega mansion
It’s feels Philadelphia is going to start losing some pro prospects soon, there’s just too many. The academy is producing a lot of pro ready or pro prospects at the moment. Even with U2, I’ve noticed over time the South American prospects Briceño, Sesquera, and Rojas they signed or loaned are getting less minutes. the veteran 25 year old captain Kyle Tucker is getting less minutes. Ngabo and Makhanya who have debuted in the 1st divisions of their own home countries are getting less minutes. All for more of the academy guys and there’s still academy guys with big potential not getting U2 minutes yet.
The truth is they’ve been losing these players for years. Jackson Gilman is an example. Would’ve been a homegrown signing at just about every other club. Went to college. Probably going to now end up at another MLS club (and his soccer career has inevitably been hurt that he didn’t go the pro route when he was good enough). Only players I’m convinced they rate overly high that aren’t yet signed are Neil Pierre, Jamir Johnson, and the new signing Chelo Avalos. I think everyone else from ‘06-‘09 is either going to leave or have to really grind it out and earn a first deal team through very good play with the reserves to have the club be willing to commit to them.
The amount of talent Philadelphia Union has is quite scary 👀All of these guys are 2007-2009 born, and you can’t even fit 5-6 more guys who deserve a spot in this graphic pic.twitter.com/HHpwzCBW9X— Youth Soccer Central (@yscentral) August 13, 2024

Source: Jack McGlynn has concrete interest from PSV, Feyenoord, and Club Brugge. Others like Real Sociedad in the mix. No bids yet but Union planning for his departure this winter. pic.twitter.com/HwvJ1g8InE— MLS Transfers (@MLSTransfers) August 14, 2024
Diaz-Gallego? He's a '10. I want to see how his year goes before putting him in that category. He reminds me a little of Willyam Ferreira , who is good yet below what they'd deem as a clear first team candidate from the jump. I personally would have Jakupovic at that level very easily, but not convinced the club views it like that at this point.
I really like what I’ve seen from Gallego. Jakupovic seems like an early developer,, I’m not too high on him.
Jamir Johnson (16) and Kellan LeBlanc (16) both START their first professional match for @philaunionii in their match vs. @torontofcii 😤 pic.twitter.com/fZt9jFZoT2— Footy Access (@footy_access) August 18, 2024
Leblanc scored two and looked great. I've been getting on his dad/coach for playing him over some others- I'm glad the kid proved me wrong. Jamir also had a nice starting debut. It was a weird game with some very questionable calls when Philly was dominating at 2-2- changed the momentum completely.
