Doubt you could do both. If you fine him, telling him his reffing days are done, he won’t pay the fine. It’s not against the law to call Scousers c.unts.
how timely ..... Coote thinks Klopp is nasty for talking to him when angry! Turkish football club Ankaragucu have defended their former president Faruk Koca after he was sentenced to jail for assaulting a referee. On Monday a court in the Turkish capital Ankara sentenced Koca, 60, to three years and seven months in prison for "intentionally wounding a public official". Koca was also given a suspended sentence of under a year for making threats and violating laws related to violence in sport. Koca punched referee Halil Umut Meler in the face following a 1-1 draw with Rizespor in December 2023, leaving the official with a fractured eye socket. Meler fell to the floor and was subsequently kicked by three other individuals.
i think he was very expansive in his elucidation and managed to fit in everyone..... Filming yourself on drugs is usually not a good idea.....
Read something (Twitter?) that the PGMOL have known about this almost immediately and had taken Coote off all Liverpool games in any capacity for about 4 years until the Brighton game in March(?) this year. Haven’t bothered to check if it’s true. Because it’s Twitter.
the guy who shot the video with Coote has been named in the UK press, and has been suspended from his job.
aha - March - so that's the date for posterity when the aliens first gave us the mind technology to wipe bias......
true that, I may have heard it once or twice. But what my concern is about the quote (“Jugen Klopp’s a cont Liverpool are all fuking bellends and we hate scousers.”) Who are the ‘WE’ who hate Scousers? I think I’d like a list if they are referees, they may need talking to.
All I can find now. FA launches investigation into David Coote as Webb breaks silence on video Referee already subject of PGMOL investigation Howard Webb taking the video ‘very seriously’ https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-into-referee-david-coote-over-klopp-comments
No doubt due to your very sheltered upbringing, shuttling only between Sunday School and the Library.
it's true. I mean don't know if he was suspended but he didn't ref a League Liverpool match from the Burnley one in July 2020 until Brighton last season at the end of March. That's almost 4 years. He reffed some cup games but never in the league. He didn't work a VAR game from the Everton one in October 2020 until March 20223. 3 years. PGMOL has some splaining to do.
interesting piece on the PGMOL in light of Coote video .... https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/david-coote-video-premier-league-referee-b2645582.html excerpts: The body is actually a rarity in the global game, since it ensures England is the only major football country where its national association is not fully responsible for referees. The PGMOL is ultimately just a not-for-profit company owned and funded by the Premier League, EFL and the FA, run by former referees. That idea was constructed by Dave Richards, the former chair of the Premier League, once officials became professional in 2001. It is for all those reasons that Fifa has never historically liked it. Some within the global body still hold that view. They have always preferred the national associations to be in control. Executives have openly spoken about how the structure is “utterly bizarre, when you think about it”. One source told The Independent: “Why is it left for former referees to manage themselves?” --------- .... perception that the structure ensures no one ever takes responsibility for refereeing standards, and that has resulted in a lack of accountability. It admittedly isn’t helped when former refs go on television as pundits and rarely appear to criticise decisions. The feeling persists that referees can be an “arrogant clique” who never accept they’re wrong. Even the presentation of statistics on correct decisions, most recently reported to be 96 per cent successful, riles football figures. “What’s the use of getting obvious free-kicks right if you miss a big one?” as one source complained. “The 4 per cent just happen to be the most influential.” ----------- Premier League clubs complain that it never feels like referees are held fully accountable for errors, which further fosters this perception of self-protection while also leading to poorer standards. ---------- They believe there have been too many errors, too much refusal to acknowledge them by addressing how the mistakes occurred, and then too many apologies that achieve nothing. Some have even argued about the lack of logic in match appointments, where officials are put in difficult positions by having to referee the same clubs in relatively quick succession
The evidence suggests that biased opinions notwithstanding, no actual harm was done to Liverpool by Coote. Or if there was, it was inadvertent, no worse, no better than the majority of other refs. I can see that up to a point. How many of us have had a co-worker or an acquaintance with whom we really didn’t like, but we tolerated for various reasons? In much the same way as I have Arsenal, United fans as friends, but I get on with. In other words, having biased opinions doesn’t always mean you act in a biased fashion. But what’s concerning here is the idea, as yet unproven, that PMGOL were aware of the video very shortly after it was made and essentially shadowbanned Coote from all officiating positions for Liverpool games for 4 years or so. Let's assume the PMGOL knew. I’m at a loss to understand why they would have kept it a secret? If the video was leaked to them, surely then they should have known it could be leaked elsewhere at any time? Leaving their position to be viewed as little more than a cover up? Can they really be that stupid to believe that the video and cover up never would out? Furthermore what was the actual point of the coverup? Why protect Coote? It’s not like he was Pierluigi Collina. He wasn’t then and isn’t now that great a ref. I can’t imagine that over the years there wouldn’t have been a decent ref promoted to replace him? Maybe employment law played a part in the decision, that PMGOL were advised that firing him would not be legal. I suppose that’s a possibility, but then again, a publicly unbiased demeanor must be one of the first requirements for any ref and it’s obvious that Coote has failed that standard here. So again it comes back to why defend him? Where’s the upside? For anyone? The manner in which this story has broken pretty much ensures that Coote’s reffing career is done. Is there anyone who will believe anything of him other than bias now? As I said in an earlier post, if City are playing Brighton and 1 point behind Liverpool, Coote sure ain’t getting that game. A shout could be made for 3-4-5 games every weekend that somehow affect Liverpool, so PMGOL are paying a lot to a ref who is not available for a lot more than the usual named games, i.e. refs are usually not allowed to ref games involving teams near where they grew up or support. Coote suddenly has a second tier of prohibited games. That’s why regardless of the investigation, he’s done. But getting rid of Coote still does not solve the problem of the PMGOL being aware. Coote is a symptom, he’s not the disease. Not for the first, the twenty first or the bazillion and first time - and when will they ever learn? - it’s not the crime, (all together now), it’s the cover up!!
there's a bigger issue on this thing. the way the other guy addresses him (and sums up the hating Scousers bit at the end) can be interpreted as "we've got you now. lad", and not just because of his Klopp comments. I've seen a number of online comments saying Coote's appearance and demeanour is 100% consistent with him being coked up. so -- if there's anything in either of those points, was the video used / held over Coote to influence him eg bribery/betting? the UK game has so far been able to avoid the huge scandals we've seen in the European game. and it's not because the bad guys have decided to stay away from the FA.
You fine him first, and then you fire him a few weeks later. Also, try telling people you hate illegal immigrants instead of Germans, and see where that gets you in the UK
Interesting, in that yesterday I re visited the bioflick “Black and White. The Juventus Story. They went from top of the first division to bottom of the second with minus -17 points. (Paramount+ and search) I’m planning on doing the Song “Father and Son” at our next meet. The father is purported to be Giovanni Alberto Agnelli, Owner of Juve and Fiat manufacturers. The son, Edoardo Agnelli felt he was passed by in succeeding the old man so took a header off a 200 foot bridge. Not trying to hog the thread just a coincidence.
