Just to add about next season, opportunities should be good again for youngsters as it seems likely we will still be persevering with the 5 subs due to the congested schedule.

Weir to Brighton and Gelhardt to Leicester as part of Wigan being pillaged, pretty sad. They've got a really good academy and this might be the start of it being ripped apart because of problems at the top. They've got a lot more talent besides but losing the cream of the crop sucks for them.

Yeah thats really sad news for them and I really hope they get some sound investment soon so they can stabilise and bounce back.

I’m at least happy to see Gelhardt go to Leicester rather than Spurs. Would much rather he learn and get opportunities under Rodgers than under Mourinho and Spurs when I wouldn’t trust them with his development if I’m honest.

Shame if Rooney and the Rams’ academy boys didn’t make the play offs.

    Jones starting for Liverpool.

I don't really see Mourinho being at Spurs for long enough to seriously affect an 18-year-old's career. The fans are already getting kind of hacked off with him, and he's unlikely to win the trophies there that would make the argument in his favour.

True but it’s not just Mourinho as Spurs even under Poch didn’t really have a clear pathway or seem to really have a plan with their youngsters coming through. Take Walker-Peters for example, hardly played any football under the age of 21 and now only starting to show his worth at Southampton and all ready an upgrade on Aurier imo. I fear that Skipp will have a similar experience and maybe escape when he’s 22 after a few years of treading water. Let’s just hope after Mourinho, they get a manager that at least seems to have a plan for their youngsters because at the moment I’m not really seeing it.

Said it before and will say it again but someone needs to save Gibbs-White before he descends into the abyss! He’s played 4 minutes since the restart! If he was seeing regular minutes even as a sub, I might give him some leeway but his development must be a concern.

Main issue with that is you have got to have Curtis Jones in that somewhere surely.

I can only see fixtures for the seniors and U21’s when the Internationals return in September. I’m to presume that U20’s and below will not have any fixtures for the foreseeable future. Has anyone heard anything about when they are likely to resume?

If they have, I can’t see any fixtures on the FA website but mind you that doesn’t mean there aren’t as that website isn’t exactly updated that often.

A game of opinions but aside from the aforementioned Curtis Jones I know that Boyce-Clarke, James Norris, Colwill, Mengi, Patino, Conor Gallagher & Musah are highly rated. Also most Arsenal youth fans seem to rate Balogun above John-Jules, not sure TJJ is a better forward prospect than Gelhardt, Delap or Louie Barry either.

Yeah, the elite qualifiers against Latvia, Ukraine and hosts Denmark. With the tournament split between October and November there's a higher possibility of actually fielding the best players if they qualify, which will be tough with only the group winner going through and Denmark/Ukraine being strong. I'd hope the likes of Jones & Gordon are not promoted before their U19 commitments are finished particularly as the U21 squad already has reasonable depth in their positions.

England U17 (2004 born) have competitive games away in Greece in November as they did not (ranked #3 behind Netherlands & Spain) get a bye this year.

Last thing I heard was that concerning link you posted suggesting they were going to axe teams that don't have official (UEFA/FIFA) fixtures. They would probably lose several talented dual qualified lads if they did so, the 2003 group for example being particularly gifted and yet to play an official fixture.

Yeah, since I posted that link I haven’t heard or read anything else confirming the cutting the age group teams so hopefully they had a change of heart, also wouldn’t they have axed team managers and coaches etc that we would have heard about?

Also if we did cut age groups but let’s say the other home Nations didn’t need to cut theirs, that would leave a bitter taste in the mouth and show what a bunch of muppets run our FA.

I would say Binks, Laird, Sibley, Smith-Rowe. Agree with people mentioning Jones, plus Gelhardt, Delap and Barry.

Seems slightly biased towards older age groups.
